Does living abroad and paying no UK tax give anyone the right to spout incorrect information?
That isn't how it works though. You pay proportionally. You don't reach a payment threshold and then wash your hands of it. We all, hopefully, pay in, it's a collective act.Leaving aside his comment, it looks like he was paying something like 100million a year in tax before he went to monaco, if true it seems like a decent contribution from an individuals (UK) career
The feller was paying £110M per year on his income. Be crazy not to leave.

If he was paying £100m a year, how much was he taking home still? Do you think he's struggling?

Respect to these people who earn their money here and pay their way.
His company was paying the tax bill required by all companies until 2010 of course when he changed it to a Swiss one to avoid paying the tax bill

He lost he right to cry about the UK when he upped and left to help save himself moneylook, we can quibble about how many millions he's personally paid in tax. He has a vast personal wealth that the tax on earnings wasn't paid by his companies
Your sole point in post #63349 was that he shouldn't 'cry' because he now lives in monaco
I disagree

I actually agree with you he should be allowed an opinion, but when those opinions are factually incorrect he should be big enough to apologise for them.Which is my point really
I don't currently work in UK but for decades I did, and paid tax. Phil reckons that means no opinions from me on UK matters until I move back

But that’s the issue is, his comment is the problem, nobody should be given that much airtime and be allowed to tell lies. Can't disagree, I actually haven't even fully read what he said beyond the headline. My post wasn't about what he said, just a wee rebuttal that he could say anything (right or wrong). That's why I initially said 'leaving his comment aside'
He's entitled but we are even more entitled to tell him where to shove those opinions now that he isn't contributing anymore. Being superior from a distance, himself now being an immigrant irony of irony, doesn't tend to endear yourself to those still here.I get that, just saying if i'd paid hundreds of millions in tax in the UK before moving overseas i'd like to think i'd still be entitled to my opinions
(even if its not wholly agreed with)
