Random Irritations

Leaving aside his comment, it looks like he was paying something like 100million a year in tax before he went to monaco, if true it seems like a decent contribution from an individuals (UK) career
That isn't how it works though. You pay proportionally. You don't reach a payment threshold and then wash your hands of it. We all, hopefully, pay in, it's a collective act.

If he was paying £100m a year, how much was he taking home still? Do you think he's struggling?

Respect to these people who earn their money here and pay their way.

The feller was paying £110M per year on his income. Be crazy not to leave.

You mean income from his company that employed lots of immigrants- the same immigrants he is complaining about from Monaco

imagine very rich people having to pay a lot of tax due to earning millions

He also moved the offices from the uk to Switzerland in 2010 to ensure they didn’t pay 100mil tax each year

His company was paying the tax bill required by all companies until 2010 of course when he changed it to a Swiss one to avoid paying the tax bill

I get that, just saying if i'd paid hundreds of millions in tax in the UK before moving overseas i'd like to think i'd still be entitled to my opinions
(even if its not wholly agreed with)

In April 2010, Ratcliffe moved INEOS's head office from Hampshire to Rolle, Switzerland, cutting the amount of tax the company paid by £100 million a year.<a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jim_Ratcliffe#cite_note-21"><span>[</span>21<span>]</span></a><a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jim_Ratcliffe#cite_note-22"><span>[</span>22<span>]</span></a>

look, we can quibble about how many millions he's personally paid in tax. He has a vast personal wealth that the tax on earnings wasn't paid by his companies
Your sole point in post #63349 was that he shouldn't 'cry' because he now lives in monaco

I disagree

However some of the reasons which afforded him the opportunity to earn that amount of money and paid tax due on it was that he had workers based in the UK who had been educated by UK tax payers, who had healthcare provided by UK taxpayers, were kept secure by the defence paid for by UK taxpayers, coming to work on roads paid for and maintained (though sporadically) by UK taxpayers etc. etc.

If he was a one man band, different story - however UK taxpayers money provided him with the means to make a lot of money although he, perhaps, was clever (or lucky or both). enough to exploit the opportunity.

A little gratitude goes a long way.

He lost he right to cry about the UK when he upped and left to help save himself money

He has no issues with immigrants working for his companies

No issues with immigrants playing for his football team

You can't disagree as you don't live in either the UK or Monaco :ROFLMAO:

Which is my point really
I don't currently work in UK but for decades I did, and paid tax. Phil reckons that means no opinions from me on UK matters until I move back
I actually agree with you he should be allowed an opinion, but when those opinions are factually incorrect he should be big enough to apologise for them.

Can't disagree, I actually haven't even fully read what he said beyond the headline. My post wasn't about what he said, just a wee rebuttal that he could say anything (right or wrong). That's why I initially said 'leaving his comment aside'

But that’s the issue is, his comment is the problem, nobody should be given that much airtime and be allowed to tell lies.

There are consequences to what he said.

He's entitled but we are even more entitled to tell him where to shove those opinions now that he isn't contributing anymore. Being superior from a distance, himself now being an immigrant irony of irony, doesn't tend to endear yourself to those still here.

I hope he is happy counting his gold in his mountain (little Tolkien reference there for those who didn't pick up on it 😉)

Jim Ratcliffe - crying about the uk whilst living in the tax haven of Monaco 🙄

Sorry guys I feel like I have to re-state the post I replied to

Nothing there about the rights or wrongs of the opinion/comment. Just that he's crying about the UK while living overseas. So its either irritating to Phil because the fella lives overseas or because he is Ratcliffe.
I (perhaps naively) didn't think it was the individual (Man U owner) that Phil objected to but because a previous UK resident and taxpayer was now living overseas.
In hindsight I suppose it could be the former reason, in which case my entire point is moot ;)
