Random Irritations

No it doesn't work like that. I'm the first stage of the document review process, so I have to do my part then forward them onto the next stage.
When I was Quality Manager for my company on a major Government Service, I was a stickler for authors of documents getting their document control and management information correct. All knew that if it was wrong I'd throw it back to them before allowing it through to peer and management review. Oh was I not their favorite person.

I was also Risk Manager on the service and was a similar stickler for properly established and managed risk and issues registers - that was actually a bigger pain (or I was a bigger pain) as some seemed completely incapable of understanding the difference between a risk and an issue - and of writing a risk in a way that mitigations and contingencies made sense.

Ah well. That's all in the past...

Well, I was told there is. In the rise/fall action of the cartridge arm. This from a very high end outlet specialising in Rega Planar.
My stance was that I was not going to put an 80's model, that they swooned over, in a skip. It would have remained original whatever.
Ah right, a damped cue lever for the arm. Should have twigged that. But if that was the only issue, seems a bit daft to ditch the whole deck.
Well, it was good, but the model they all reckoned was the Linn Sondeck.
Didn’t have one myself, but I had a Thorens with a Hadcock arm, unipivot.
and Quad amps. Later , I had a NAD 3020, , but not as good, IMO, as the Quads.
Those were the days…..
I had a Sondek with Lingo PS, Ittok arm and Karma cartridge. Nice deck. Sold it about 8 years ago.
It got real daft, I remember a magazine writer,Ken, someone, rating a Japanese cart ridge made from rosewood selling for £500. A fortune back then.
Ken Kessler?
That would have been the Koetsu Rosewood.
If you think £500 was a lot, there are cartridges around these days that are multiple thousands.

Cant get WAZE navigation search working on Google Android in my new motor...no keyboard popup appears. Tried this, that and the other - still no success. Bleedin' irritating.

I tried Waze, found it too invasive and distracting. Also didn’t like all the wee car symbols on the route.
Apple Maps or Google Maps for me.
But, yes, irritating if you like Waze.

The inference was that a replacement deck with warranty etc outweighed the benefit of a costly repair. I agree with you, I was not about to skip dump a 40+ Yr old iconic deck for a" modern" version just to economise.
As it happened all was OK.

Google Maps on Google Android in-car is now pretty much as informative and up-to-date as Waze - and it doesn't have all the irritating little emoji graphics. My irritation is simply not getting Waze to work properly but as Google Maps is so much improved for car nav I'm not going to bother further with Waze.

That’s annoying. How old is the phone?

It’s a 15 Pro Max, so only a couple of years. I’ve updated all the apps and followed every process I usually do when iOS updates but now have a battery which drains really quickly even when the phone is sitting in my pocket.

Even doing 500 documents in a day is not a real review. Just 1 minute per document means over 8 hours work and what use is a 1 minute review? Not sure what you are actually reviewing/checking but at that speed I doubt you are adding much to the process - especially as it probably gets more reviews up the chain.

Google maps navigation in Apple Car Play. The latest update has ballsed it right up. I can't zoom out how I like it to get an overview of the next 50+ miles of my route. It just keeps reverting to the view that only shows about the next mile.
The latest IOS update has made it even worse.
I can see that the 400 yards I've just traveled is clear, thanks, but only the next 400 yards is shown and most that is covered by icons.
Not very helpful.

Just rung my leasing company with query about our car.
Existing customer press 3.
Two minutes later no reply, hang up.
Redial.
New enquiries press 1.
Guess what?

I do QA checking, which is just that the document numbering, title, revision history etc is all filled out correctly and the documents uploaded properly.

I don't want to make you redundant but that process should be fairly easy to automate (AI?) and free up time for more important jobs surely?

Obviously not since that hasn't happened anywhere across the construction industry so far. 🤷🏻‍♂️
Probably because people are scared/unwilling to embrace the technology? In my industry (defence/aerospace) AI is being used to automate a lot of the processes to make things more efficient. Sometimes they are automating things just for the sake of it and there is no actual benefit but on the whole things are getting better.
