On the affordability, is there no clothing grant for school clothing available? £150 per child around here (Scotland) for those who can’t.
There are lots of ‘swap shops’ and similar for cheap uniforms but never heard of any grants. On the affordability, is there no clothing grant for school clothing available? £150 per child around here (Scotland) for those who can’t.
Trust me (I’m a teacher), if there were no uniform, the clothes worn would be of much higher cost than any school uniform.I honestly don’t quite understand the rationale behind school uniforms in the modern era, or at least to the extent of having badged blazers, sweaters & cardigans (do they still do cardigans?).
Why not black trousers, a coloured polo shirt and a sweatshirt? They can be sourced at a reasonable price from a number of outlets. It just seems anachronistic…
No idea my kids don’t wear any of those brands! My daughters prefer to shop in places like SHEIN where they get more, my son has no interest in brands. Are these school clothes as expensive as the required fashions of the day?
White Fox hoodies, CP or Stone Island clothing, £200 trainers etc.?
Nope no grants I’m aware of eitherOn the affordability, is there no clothing grant for school clothing available? £150 per child around here (Scotland) for those who can’t.
Is it a state school or private school? This is pretty much the exact problem we have. All uniform has the be with the embroidery of the school. Guess where the only place to buy it from is? The school itself, no shop stockist just the school website or shop within the reception area!
They don’t have blazers only jumpers or shirts so you can’t even buy one and put the badge on. Even trousers and polo shirts have the badge embroidered onto them so you can’t even buy a normal pair of quality black trousers or shirt.
The quality from the school is crap but it’s priced at a premium, even the PE kit is done the same way so as not to give you chance to buy elsewhere. Its basically robbery as you end up buying more throughout the year as it’s such cheap overpriced garbage.
As per the previous post State school! Like I said I can afford it but there’s plenty that can’t. But feels like the thread is being overtaken now maybe I’ll just go have a RumIs it a state school or private school?
I didn’t buy my lad that either when he wanted an Arsenal shirt! £80 For a junior football shirt absolutely no way! I don’t even pay anywhere near that for my teams adult shirt but that’s the joy of supporting a non top flight team. The irony is that many(not all) who complain about the cost and quality of school uniforms don't flinch at buying the latest replica football shirt for their child.
You’re a bad dad.I didn’t buy my lad that either when he wanted an Arsenal shirt! £80 For a junior football shirt absolutely no way! I don’t even pay anywhere near that for my teams adult shirt but that’s the joy of supporting a non top flight team.
That’s why so many now buy the knock offs from places like DHGate. But that’s another thread that’s been done recently![]()
I know I get told that all the time, but they’re all still alive and have a roof over their heads so that’s a positiveYou’re a bad dad.![]()
I'm irritated by my general clumsiness. It's only ever at home, weirdly, never anywhere else.
I'm getting a bit sick of having to clear up spilled pints of water, bags of coffee beans, spoonfuls of tiny linseed, etc. on a once weekly basis.
With my cat-like reflexes, I used to pluck these things out of the air before they hit the ground. Now I just observe the slow-motion carnage unfold.
I'm 54 ffs. Not exactly a dotard; but thanks for the diagnosis. It’s old age. This year has seen me turn into a bumbling Mr McGoo.
I’m either just coming from an accident, in the middle of a train wreck or planning the next catastrophe.

I own a couple of small companies and the amount of people that book and pay online then try and claim they didn’t use the service or dispute the payment is ridiculous. We have a member of staff whose only job it is to take care of this.Just listening to an article on R2 about the new fraud/theft trend that people are taking advantage of. People are repeatedly complaining that their food delivery is late/cold/missing items/whatever and claiming refunds. One customer apparently claimed loads of times and got over a grand refunded. Another claimed their meal was cold - from a cake and ice cream company that didn't do hot food! The delivery firm automatically refunds them and the food outlet is left out of pocket. Must be so hard to run a small business nowadays.
Our cat deciding to bring in not 1, not 2, but 3 presents today!
So far today I’ve had to clear up a bird and mouse from the hallway, and just minutes ago catch a mouse it brought in alive in the dining room that he was literally playing Cat and Mouse with! Where were my kids when this went on! Filming him playing thinking it was funny![]()
