Random Irritations

…all those feeling pleased with themselves with Gary Linekar now finished presenting MotD. Pathetic that there is such pettiness in society today that results in public service broadcasting losing one of its very best ever sports presenters in this way. And if that sounds angry it’s because I am. So thank you Gary…you have been brilliant, and will continue to be so.
He’d never last on here as he just can’t stop airing his questionable views in public.

Linekar - very good player , very good presenter but he has issues with his political views which whilst there is free speech he appears to be unable to filter out the nonsense
You do forfeit a lot of the “free speech” rights when you are a high profile employee of the BBC. He knew this but carried on.
And to post anything anti-Israeli with a picture of a rat attached is ridiculous, he must have known the anti-Semitic association.

having a cold for about 8 weeks and it turning into a chest infection putting me off the bike for 3 weeks, just when the training was really kicking in.

Lineker was never very adept at the social media. Made many mistakes. I am sure he regrets all of them.
His desire to express views was sound, but his skill at this was lacking. This made him appear very foolish and it was ill-judged by him too often.
This has caused many to ignore all the other aspects of his career and his true good intentions on important matters.
None of us is a perfect human being, after all.

A good example of what a dedicated a professional footballer should be.
It actually took him a long time to gain a regular first team place at Leicester. He stuck at it in a very dedicated and workmanlike way.
I remember his 16 and 17 year old contemporaries who joined Leicester. Mick Duffy was a better centre forward and Andy Peake was the better all round player.
In our school team, from 1st form to 5th form, Tony Malyon was our best player. All Gary wanted to do was score goals.
As a schoolboy he was arguably a better cricketer than footballer.
I was his team mate at school, but not really one of his mates.
Playing for England changed him. He became an even better player in the process. 48 goals in 80 caps. A record that can not be dismissed or ignored.
He played golf and achieved a very decent single-figure ability.

He developed his TV entertainment skills on They Think Its All Over. This was a very successful and entertaining show.
His BBC presenting included Football, Golf and Olympics. He was able to conduct interviews in near-fluent Spanish, which he had learnt during his time at Barcelona.

I feel I am not biased in my view of him. I have seen him develop over a long period of time. 1972 to today. I feel I understand him.

I wish him well.

Not going to respond to any ‘are you kidding’ responses to my GL post as I would instantly be deemed by some to contravene the forum ‘no politics’ rule - since even were I not to say anything explicitly some would choose to attempt to read between the lines seeking the political point they would like to think I was implying.

But you are responding 🤷‍♂️

Maybe not as he's hardly the sharpest crayon in the box.

I think it’s more of an ego thing. Thinks he’s above the rules. Although @Voyager EMH gave him a glowing reference you hear time and time again from people that come into contact with him that he is arrogant.

His very opening words on MOTD last night were all about him. I genuinely cannot abide the man.

He used his position to point out inequalities In the world and put the boot into certain people

Good on him. Rather than just towing the line.

So when your employer lays out a set of rules, do you only adhere to the ones you like and ignore the rest?

My dislike has nothing to do with his views. It’s the fact he thinks he’s bigger and more important than his employer.

He’s a truly arrogant man.

That happens in some organizations where the bosses don't administer appropriately.
