Random Irritations

That's my point.
It's pretty sad that one of the highest viewing figures is 8 million and yet the other 50m still have to pay for the TV license
8m gets you in the top 5 for the year most years now. When people go crazy for a show now, the figures are only about 8-10m. They make it sound as though half the country is watching when in reality only a small percentage are. 8m will be near the top of the tree for the BBC, hence why they pay for it still.

All a long way from the 18-22m of 20-30 years ago. 8m back then would get a show cancelled.

That's my point.

But, they don’t! And the number of TV licenses is fewer than half of that number.

But the other 50 mil are not just paying for that program or what’s on BBC - that “paying” will cover a multitude of programs and services that are produced by the BBC

It’s not much different than paying for Sky sports but only being interested in Football etc

But I don’t think there are 50mil paying for a license

But it doesn't look good if only 8 million people watch their best effort.

The massive difference is you choose to pay for SKY

But I don’t think there are 50mil paying for a license
Apologies I should have said ''the other 50m who are supposed to pay for the TV license''.

I wonder if someone who watches tv without paying for a license is included in the viewing figures

And you can choose not to pay for the ty license and then just stream what you want to watch 🤷‍♂️

There are many now who just watch the likes of Netflix or Apple TV or Prime etc

8mil is at the high end of people watching terrestrial programs

There is a lot of choice now , the days of 20mil watching a program has gone

As long as you don't stream anything to do with the BBC programmes on demand, including catch up TV, on BBC iPlayer.

All I was saying is if Eurovision is the best the BBC can do, it's a pretty sad state of affairs. In my opinion

But if you are watching BBC programs then surely you need to pay for it ?

Eurovision happens every year and it’s the same cheese , the same hilarity , the same rubbish but millions do watch it

It’s a popular program still

I'm lost with these numbers, 50mil?

there's only 40mil adults in uk and they live in only 28mil households & only a subset of households will want/have/need to have a tv license

If there are 68 million in Britain, 8 million watched Eurovision that leaves 60 million.
Knock off 10 million for people too young to watch it leaves about 50 million. That's how I got the number.
As I didn't do a complete statistical analysis, I was wrong. Of course there aren't 50 million people paying TV license.

But however many people do or don't pay for a TV license, 8 million people is still a small proportion of the country as a whole.
On a slight tangent, if you watch Netflix live, you need a TV license

It’s 8mil out of 24mil license paid household

And it will prob be the most watched program of the week and month

So far the most watched program of the year is Mr Bates vs Post Office at over 9mil

What sort of figures do you look to see for the popular programs

Not an irritation but it might be to others when i post it

Almost no one can 'dodge' or avoid TV license here. Its paid as a separate line on your leccy bill, so if you don't pay your electric bill inc the tv bit then you've no leccy

Oh and its payable whether you have a TV or not

So if everyone in the country watches a programme, the absolute maximum viewer number is 24
million?

Don’t these numbers have some sort of multiple occupancy households factor?.

This number comes from TV market research not licence holders.

I said I was wrong.
I don't know what else to say.

Argue with someone else.

Not sure to be honest - I’m guessing it doesn’t include pubs etc - hence why the Euros final had around 30mil views. I guess they will count two tellys in one household as two views

What it does show is how over the years there is a vast amount of other options for people to watch

Think one of the highest viewed programs this week is Clarksons farm at around 6 mil

So the viewing is now spread across multiple platforms and it’s really only the major big events where you get the big numbers

Blimey -is that the only telly package you can have though ? Are you able to get satellite telly

Just got a blue screen of death on my work laptop out of nowhere. I shut it down and it will not turn back on - well, it sort of does as there are lights under the keyboard, but I can't get anything up on the screen. Was on the phone to our IT for ages, and all he said was try long-pressing the power button (didn't work), then he just gave up and said it's out of warranty and that he can't do anything. All well and good but I have personal documents on here that I haven't backed up anywhere else in a long time - financial records for my Sunday football team, and for the Thursday night football group I run. Logs of all my golf scores and stats for the last 8 years. I am well and truly f..ornicated. ☹️

Any IT experts please, I'm all ears. This screen was the last thing I saw.
