Random Irritations

Boredom and subsequently spending money on things I don’t need 😂😂
The UPS driver who collects from us had a load of clubs from Golfbidder in his van on Friday. I made a comment about them and he said he has never delivered so many clubs. I think it's the same as with you, boredom, can't play, buy things (golf clubs in this case). You are not alone 😄

I've noticed a distinct lack of stock on the 2nd hand websites, similar to straight after lockdown when everyone rushed to go and play.

Story of my life, that. I developed a bit of an online shopping addiction during the pandemic (when there was bugger all else to do), and it's stayed with me ever since. :(

This time of year especially is the time people are changing what's in their bag for the upcoming golf 'season' I guess. I know I did that last year when I got my wedges around this time, and this year I've got a new (to me) putter arriving today.

I'd have thought usually it would be nearer March for most people, the average golfer starts playing again in April. It's only the enthusiastic golfer who keeps playing through winter. You could well be right though.

I was thinking in line with what you said - can't play as much so end up just thinking about your golf bag and idly buying bits instead. Plus you can take them down the range and bed them in before Spring.

The way people just hand over their details on social media then wonder why they get scammed. A paid for Twitter post or Facebook post asks you to post a GIF of film that was number released in the year of your birth or to make up a silly name from a combination of options based on day and month. Similar posts asking about pet names or something about where you were born etc. Do people not see that these are simply building up a package of all of your personal data for selling on to, at best, marketing firms and, more likely, to more nefarious people.

Hope your lip didn't bleed too much! 😁
I was sure you were going to say, after jacking the car up and then going to the boot to find "no spare wheel"! 😭.
Glad it all turned out well in the end. Can I suggest though, that you put the locking wheel nut in the glove box rather than the boot. On a cold wet night it might be difficult to find somewhere in the boot in the dark!
Much easier to just grab it from the glove box. 👍
In the boot keeps it away from hands that may put it away again "to keep it safe".

Still doesn't work. If my wife does something that I think is stupid, I say nothing and she still regards that as an insult. I think it must be something about the tone of my silence.
That reminds me of an Andy Capp cartoon. Flo says to Andy "Don't you start!". Andy replies "I didn't say anything", to which Flo responded "I know, but it's the way you're not saying it!".

This does my head in. And then you usually get a post saying "Don't respond to any messages from me, I don't know how but I've been hacked". I know exactly how you got hacked. It's because you're a ******* idiot. I've started deleting anyone on my friend list that posts or answers anything like that. I'm now down to 37 people on my friend list and most of those are family. If I wouldn't cross the road to talk to them if I saw them in the street why would I be interested in what they're posting on social media?

But...but...the Likes and interactions........

It is funny. See people on social media fill in all of their personal details to find out 'which cheese best sums up their personality' and then complain that their account is hacked. The Twitter ones are a bit more subtle, an account claiming to be about retro music asking seemingly innocent questions about music from the year or month you were born.

Honestly…Global Radio Newsreader (for LBC) tells us of a highest annual average temperature of fourteen point ninety-eight degrees. Really? Does she not know how to ‘speak decimals’?

There is an app called Next Door which is a neighbourhood chat type thing. It seems pretty popular, probably get about a dozen new threads a day from locals complaining about potholes, cycle lanes etc etc.

Recently it's started asking for my DOB. I skip past that, but do wonder how many folk fill it in without thinking.

My current house and contents insurer unable to give me a renewal quote unless I pay a £30 admin fee for a change to my existing 2023/2024 policy that I want to apply from the renewal date. But not required from now. I can get a renewal quote on the final day of existing policy, but not before unless i pay the admin fee.

No thankyou. I’ll look elsewhere…as I was going to do anyway.

We look at Nextdoor (only used it to sell things) and amazes me how many people moan about things - even more than on this forum. Everything is the county councils fault, irrespective of the subject. I wonder if they would be so vocal if they realised the council is owed over £25 million in council tax and that is why they can't get everything done

on my local group someone kicked off for getting a parking ticket eventhough they admitted to not parking in a designated bay
