Random Irritations

Interesting debate. I've never even thought I should be offended by a transgender woman considering herself the same as me. She isn't entirely because she's had to endure a long and painful journey to become the same as me. No-one would embark on that journey if they felt there was a choice.

When it comes to competing in sport - especially at the highest level - then I have an issue which is kind of confusing. Basically I guess her previous "life" gives her a natural advantage which means the playing field isn't level.

It's taken me ages to type that and still not sure I said what I wanted to say! It's tricky...

I honestly couldn’t say what your posting history is to say we disagree on many things.

I’m very much in the live and let live camp. I couldn’t care less whether a man wants to be a woman, or the other way round. Just don’t force it in other people’s faces. And a person is welcome to have their opinion that may be the opposite of that.

Same goes for everything, religion, politics, sports.

What I don’t like are lazy stereotypes and people being raciest or sexist etc.
I will absolutely challenge those opinions and thoughts. As I do on here, sometimes by presenting their arguments back to see how they react.

I don’t do being offended, especially on the behalf of others. Apart from the time someone accused me of being from Manchester!
Oaft. Thoughts and prayers mate ☹️

I think you summarised many people's thoughts on the subject pretty well.
The thing that confuses me most about transgender issues is why so many middle-aged male golfers are seemingly so obsessed and opinionated on the subject.

Yeah, but, current affairs to us are things that directly affect us. Cost of living, the new SNP scandal, how crap the roads are and how noisy nightclubs are (ok that last one may not be true), but my point is my wife doesn't get upset by a man, or a woman, claiming to be anything else because it has no real impact on her and she just lets other folk get on with what they are doing. I do a similar thing. If it does start to impact on her, she may change that view.

I see, apologies that I assumed regarding your mum.

Fare enough, I won’t labour the point and this will be my last question but has she never really said anything about Transgender women beating real women in sports? Or Transgender women being held in women’s prisons or staying at abused women’s hostels?

No. As so say, it’s not a topic of conversation in our house. If we started worrying and getting offended at everything that didn’t affect us, we’d get nothing done.

Pretty much my thoughts! Changing sex is not a decision anyone would take lightly, so once someone goes through that I think they deserve to be left alone and not harangued with comments such as "you're not a women you're still a man" or it being offensive to other women. And agree with you on the sporting front as well, it's clear that having been born a man can give physical advantages so unfortunately I think they need to be excluded on that basis.

There are other aspects of gender that I do have more of a problem with, but this isn't thread to continue that line of thought.

My son comes home from school & tells me they’ve been watching Mr Bean today.
Apparently they’ve done all their work for the term.
More like teachers can’t be bothered & are on the wind down for their hols.

I can honestly say that my wife and 2 daughters all have no problem with transgender women in life, but a big problem when it comes to them competing against natural women in sport.

Id be on the blower to the head teacher saying that I'd hope the school will be lenient with me when I take my kids out of school early to go on our family hols

UPS - on a scale of 1 - 10 with 10 being perfect they're minus several million.
Bought a wedge from Golfbidder on Monday, it was shipped Monday and I even got a message from UPS saying it was out for delivery...the tracking confirmed it.
Half an hour later and I get an email saying there's a delay and my delivery status will be updated ASAP
After 30 hours of nothing I have a moan to GB and they get on to UPS..
Half an hour later I get a call from UPS...very sorry etc etc..parcel is on the van and will be delivered in 2-3 hours....
Well guess what..?
3rd time in a row that a delivery involving UPS has been delayed....
Its come to the point that if a company uses them I simply won't buy from them..no matter how good a deal may be....
Bunch of Peasants.

We actually got fined for taking him out of school for 1wk in June.
I refused to pay it & got threatened with court & a bigger fine 🤷‍♂️

Didn’t get a penny out of me.

They have god knows how many inset days & strike days, yet they were “worried” the kids wouldn’t catch up after COVID.

Always time for Mr Bean tho 🤦‍♂️😂.

Rant over.

The system in England for selling houses.

MIL passed last year. She had a lovely flat which we put on the market. Got a buyer in Feb/March. He wanted all sorts chucked in, which we were happy to do at no cost as we just wanted rid of it - it's a 100 miles from home and a 2.5 hour drive, so logistically it was difficult to keep an eye on it.

Then in May, he pulled out. so back to square one.

Then, 3 weeks later, he changed his mind, and it was all back on again. Things have been moving along, albeit slowly, and just last week, the solicitor advised we were just about at the stage of agreeing a completion date.

This morning, he pulled out again.

So, back to square one again, apart from a hefty solicitors bill. He will have one as well, but that is no consolation.

The prospect of having to market it again, and potentially going through another winter worrying about the maintenance of the property is not a nice one. Oh yeah, it's the wife's birthday today, that's put a proper dampener on that.

Have you thought about taking it to an auction?

Why?
When I was at school, we did the same wind down at the end of the final term. And I left school in 1982.
I left school in 98 & the things they teach them now are 🤯
My lad would definitely benefit from another week of learning rather than tossing it off for 1wk before a 6wk hol.

Councils who put trees in the middle of roundabouts, especially when it is a mini roundabout with traffic lights that cannot bee seen because of the trees.

After my O levels in 1980 we went straight into the initial A level syllabus - had 5 or 6 weeks of that before end of term....

When I did my O levels we did not have to go into school from about two weeks before the start of the exam period except to take an exam and there was no requirement to go in afterwards from memory. I had already said I was leaving school after my O levels so that might have been the reason.
