Maybe this isn’t quite the right place to post, but as meningitis has been mentioned here, I wanted to share something personal.
Two of my nephews live in North Kent. The younger one attends Queen Elizabeth School, where, very sadly, a pupil recently passed away from the disease. Although she wasn’t in his year, he knew her well, and her death has had a huge impact on him and other students.
My older nephew is at the University of Kent in Canterbury, where another student who died was studying. Thankfully, he wasn’t in the same halls of residence, and neither of them were at the nightclub that’s been mentioned.
They’re both safe, which we’re very grateful for—but it really brings home how close these tragic events can feel, even when they don’t directly affect us. It’s been a worrying and emotional few days.
