Random Irritations

The whole point for me is, I have to pay a licence fee that funds the BBC to watch live sport on Sky, TNT or DAZN. So I'm paying for something that I don't use in order to use something else, that's ludicrous.

What they could do is instead of the 50p a day for the license they can add that into the fees in Sky etc to broadcast all the services that BBC do

Of course it’s relevant

They are services provided by the BBC from the license fee

Remove the fee then what funds all those services

They aren’t “free” to run
We are obviously at cross-purposes as to what 'value for money' means. When I try and quantify value for money, I only consider the services that I actually need to pay for. I don't try and justify it by saying I'm paying for other things that I could still be using whether I pay or not. Paying for a free service is never value for money.

So you have never used the BBC website , Iplayer or listened to anything on a single bbc radio channel
Do you pay for Sky TV? Can you view skysports.com or watch some highlights on their app if you don't? Yes.
Have you ever listened to Talksport or other radio station that is not the BBC? Do you pay for that? No.

I think you are missing the point - the money from the license fee doesn’t just pay for bbc tv channels

It pays for a multitude of services including the website and radio channels etc

It’s no different to skys website being paid for by sky out of subscription and adverts etc

The license fee that’s paid by millions helps run and pay for all those services -remove the fee and they go

You're the one missing the point since we were talking about value for money to the consumer.

Nobody ever uses this website argument for anything else. I can use the Sky Sports website without paying for Sky Sports - nobody ever tries to justify paying for Sky Sports by saying it helps fund their website as well. It's a laughable argument.

I could definitely live my life happily with no BBC website, that wouldn't be a problem whatsoever. I certainly wouldn't willingly pay for it to exist. I barely use it now, there are plenty of other websites that provide the same service. It's just news isn't it? Countless other news websites.

Yes value for money

The £180 a year provides for millions a very valuable and excellent value for money considering all the services it helps pay for

All those other websites aren’t free they are paid for in some way - either through advertising or subscription

In your opinion! Why do you find it so hard to see or accept that others don’t have the same opinion and don’t feel they get VFM regardless of what it costs. Yes other websites are paid for in some way, advertising, through other subscriptions but nobody is arguing that and at least they have the option not to pay.

Do the same for the BBC and you’re breaking the law and subject to fines or punishments.

I get absolutely zero VFM from my TV licence, the only live TV I watch is sport which I pay a subscription for but in order to use that I have to pay a compulsory licence fee to a different provider the BBC for that! That’s not VFM that’s a complete farce, I don’t watch, listen to or view any BBC content yet I still have to pay. You can call it a licence fee but let’s be honest it’s nothing but a compulsory subscription service!

We get it you believe it’s VFM etc some of us don’t! Before you say don’t pay it then! See my previous points I have no choice due to Military housing & a room in the block it’s compulsory for us to have licence just to have a TV. So I’d be effectively be fined/charged twice for not having one. Absolutely Zero VFM for me!

I look at the BBC as a public service and a key one for millions that we all pay into to help support others
No different to other key services that are provided to the public through our taxes and NI

Millions rely on the BBC , those millions can’t afford Sky etc etc so for many it’s a life line

Rely on the BBC for what? Endless repeats of Bargain Hunt or Pointless?

No form of television should be considered a public service, it's not essential in any way. They'd certainly be able to afford something if they're £180 a year better off.

I did write a response but it can be summed up in a single word “ludicrous “. On that note I’m out of the BBC chat!

“Try walking a mile in my shoes…”

For those that may have lost a loved one under very trying circumstances in recent days, my heart goes out to you.

We all, sometimes, just have to take a breath before we dive into who said what & why. By all means debate the point but respect the difference. We’re all right and all wrong when we debate opinions.

Talk Talk home security it appears has updated their family friendly filtering and blocked loads of websites

It includes the golf club IG website

So we now have members going mad at the office and IG because of it

I even showed them what they need to do on their home security

One member has been emailing England golf and IG to complain
