Random Irritations

Was there no defer option? Or how many times have you deferred already?😉

Going back to the windows 10 install, I didnt enable the WiFi option and told the remote workers they had to go to an office within a month. But that was pre covid and they were going that anyway. The range of home Internet quality was too risky 😬

I’d already deferred pretty much every week for a couple of months now this was my enforced date 🤣

I’m not sitting in work doing this sod the quality of internet if I’m stuck staring at this thing update I want to be sat in a pair of shorts with a coffee not in work getting collared for other meaningless tasks 🤣

I've got mine booked in for the 18th of this month - 4th attempt! Going to be a long day!
At least I’m sat in comfort, can’t wait for it to do what it’s done to so many others and cock up at the end of the install so I’ve to waste another day having it done all over again 🤣
People who have their Christmas decorations up already!

And anyone who defends them on this thread is just as bad and deserves to have a Christmas tree inserted somewhere very painful.
I’m with you on this is painful to see and must be so bites of Christmas by the time it even gets to December. It’s 12 days of Christmas not 2 months!

I love everything about Christmas, even some of the Christmas ads. But, for me, anything outside of December is a massive NO.

If my Mrs had her way the decorations would be up in October.
I go through the same battle every year (and lose), I say around 12th is the right time.
If it gets to December 1st and they are not up I consider it a win.
Don’t even get me started on Xmas shopping it’s a year round thing in our house, just checked and we bought the 1st present in March!!!

The traditions of decorating the house in winter go back a long way.

I tend to start putting a few small items around the place on 1st Dec. Then I will buy a tree on a midweek day, possibly 10th this year, and all the other decorations go up.

Traditionally, evergreens can be brought into the house at Samhain fire festival, which is right now, the half-way point between equinox and solstice, as we enter the darkest quarter of the year.
I am lucky to have a holly with berries in the garden and will cut a few bits now and again for the house.

The greenery can be taken down at Imbolc, around the 3rd of Feb, as we leave the darkest quarter, when their purpose has been fulfilled.

Anyone who is putting up a "Christmas tree" right now is fine with me, as it is in keeping with the pre-Christian culture of these islands.

I popped in Sainsbury's this morning and there was a massive Christmas tree in the way of the drinks. 😠

Having this debate with the missus lately. She's started muttering about Christmas to our little one (who's nearly 3), to get her excited about it. But my argument is Christmas isn't really that special if you start too early, you'll be sick of it before it even arrives. For me, December is Christmas. From 1st December, you've got your advent calendars out, and anything goes then. November, not so much.

Now that's what I call a considered approach.

I genuinely don’t enjoy Christmas and it’s a joke in our house I am a combination of Scrooge and the grinch because I hate spending money on pointless tat and I hate the enforced fun aspect of having to see people I can’t stand 🤣

So the fact it’s getting earlier every year grates on me and kids don’t appreciate it as much because of by the time it comes round they have no interest in the festivities they just care what haul they got in presents.

I love it and also hate parts of it. I like the fact that I get off work, and people are generally in a good mood for a few weeks (you excepted I guess), see family that I don't see that often. I hate having to buy presents for everyone though, I have no idea what they would want so I tend to just give everyone chocolates and/or alcohol and have done with. Don't even like the receiving part much as I normally buy myself the things I want, like most adult men do. Don't think I'll bother sending cards this year, waste of paper - will finally go down the e-card route I reckon.

Don’t do it!

Currently FUBAR 2 hrs into the update and it’s locked me out upon reboot telling me I’ve used the wrong password on my Bitlocker which I haven’t because it’s the same one I’ve had in this laptop for 3 years. We’ve had several people have exactly the same issue and ended up being a 2 day install looks like it’s my turn for the same cock up!

On the phone to SPoC trying to get a bitlocker reset which they can’t do because it’s not a BitLocker issue it’s a Windows 11 update issue with our laptops apparently had untold number of calls about it already today 😒

People who go early on Christmas tend to be sickened by Boxing Day. They run out of steam. My wife has friends like this who end up taking the decorations down on Dec 27th. Muppets. Wait until Decemeber, earliest. We go mid Dec, usually, for the full works.

My Mrs is literally a Christmas Elf she loves it and has enough Christmas jumpers to cover off the whole of December. I hate the commercial aspect of it, begrudge traipsing round everywhere to do the family and friends thing when we don’t bother the rest of the year and kids do not appreciate the sentiment of what it’s meant to be about. It’s all about gifts and stiffing your face and neither of which I’m a fan of.

I’ve told my kids this year we will be doing the 5 gift rule, 1 thing they want, 1 thing they need, something to wear, something to read and something to do! Outside of that tough, it’s not me being mean but I’m trying to reeducate that it’s not about what you receive or give it’s about being a decent human and being with people that need you.

Christmas decorations

I went in to the spare bedroom this week and noticed my Christmas is in in that room, not moved since November 2024 having been brought down from the loft back then.

This just popped on my news

I enjoy it all but it’s too long for me, like you if I need something I buy it so never know what to ask for.
I swear the Mrs would be happy if it was year long though.
Fortunately this means I can leave the shopping to her.
We have a spare room full of presents at the moment god knows who has got what though so I’m as surprised as they are when they open it.
I do enjoy the 2 days we spend with family though although it’s never Xmas day or Boxing Day as I work them so we find a couple of days between Xmas and New Year.
My Son suffers with mental illness and can’t cope or get his head round the idea we have to buy presents for people on a certain day for no apparent reason, he wants to buy things for people but wants it to be perfect so it never seems right or enough for him.
We have convinced him now to buy his presents throughout the year when people actually want or need something which makes him more relaxed.
Last year my Xmas present was tickets for me and him to see the Rock Orchestra I think it was in May but it works for him and I get something I want.
