Random Irritations

Yeah, it feels like we have to redo them every couple of months, maybe it's once a year or something, I don't know. I just click through them as fast as possible and guess the answers at the end to 'pass' it. Waste of everyone's time.
It’s often used by main contractors as yet another reason not to pay. 54 days after making an application for payment “ooh your anti slavery policy has expired, you are on our amber list and we cannot pay you.” 🤬🤬🤬

I've just had to fill in yet another tick box questionnaire at work. Does your company have an Anti Slavery policy, Child Labour policy etc? Utterly pointless, does anyone ever check them? Has anyone had a visit from a customer to check whether you are shoving 12yr olds up chimneys? I understand the sentiment but blimey they are worthless.
We got B-corp. I think that’s is one box to rule them all.

I work for a main contractor, we wouldn't you issue you work via formal channels if you don't meet all requirements to be a supplier, payment only becomes an issue when people ignore processes and issue work off-system.

The thing that concerns me most is that there's a systemic fault in the way that the CCRC approaches reviews. They insist on having new evidence available. He had been denied reviews on previous occasions and it's only advances in forensics that eventually got him justice. If the DNA sample from 40 years back had been lost or destroyed he would have had no chance.

What about reviewing whether the investigation at the time was flawed? It's clear that he was charged and convicted on pretty flimsy grounds and denied legal advice during interrogation. Strikes me that the police were desperate to find someone - anyone - to take the rap.
What evidence have you had access to which shows “that it is clear” etc. “on pretty flimsy grounds”,
And that he was denied legal advice?
Evidence , circumstantial evidence, can be quite strong , and wrong, at the same time.

What baffles me is how long it took for his representatives, or those helping him with his assertion of innocence, to get the physical material found at the scene, DNA checked against his DNA?
True, it wasn’t able to be done at the time of his trial, but DNA checking has been available for many years.
Why was this present checking not requested all those years ago?

Not sure what you are trying to say here tbh? 🤷‍♂️

I can only speak from experience, some (not all) MCs will look for any reason to delay payment. And various expired policies or lapsed insurances (that they have on record) have all been cited in the past as reasons for missed payments.

The kids on the green across the road.......
It's not that they're charging about, having fun....I'd rather that than stuck I side glued to the tv or games console
I just wish they wouldn't let out such blood-curdlung screams that I think they're being murdered! 😋

Just sharing some other experiences on the topic, regarding payment it's disgraceful how some MC's treat sub-contractors, with Breyer going bust once again those down the food chain suffer.

Yep Breyer going cost us £40k. (Currently in discussions with Greyline about completing one project.)

Some MCs are dreadful subbie bashers, (It’s normally the Family owned ones that are the worst) but others are an absolute pleasure to deal with…30 day terms, always releasing retentions on time etc.

Ferry builders in Scotland. Two ferries, years, yes years, late and going to cost almost 5 times the original quote.😬
Always baffles me how they can go so much over the quote.
Seems to happen when building football stadiums.
It’s almost like they quote low to get the job.
