Random Irritations

Ouch. I work from home pretty much all the time, I don't think they want me to tell them I work from sofa, bed or desk depending on how I'm feeling that day.
You sound like my missus, she plonks herself on the sofa with phone and laptop every day. I can't physically do that, when I'm at home, I can't concentrate at all unless I'm at a table with a proper monitor. I sometimes have to sit in the lounge with the laptop on my lap, if our little one is at home for example, and it just feels like I can't really see what I'm doing.

When my sister and my brother in law moved in together they bought a house that needed a fair bit of work. It had a garage, very smart long term investment they turned it into a home office for him (works from home 1 day a week but can need to do work in evenings) but then long term when my niece needs somewhere for school work / when they have another kid it's a nice study

I just work in the conservatory. We have a dining table that's literally never used as a dining table because we eat in the lounge. So that is my desk.

I've got a dedicated desk already setup but I like a change of scenery...especially when the golf coverage starts on a Thursday and Friday.

Signing on for Saturday comps for the following week.
Winter arrangement was 18.30 on the screen in the bar or 1 minute later online.
No problem. Set phone for 6.30 at home and grab a slot 1 minute later.
From today back to summer system. 18.30 in bar or, 1 hour later on line ( by which time the slots are wiped out).
But.... if you want to sign on in club at 18.30 you have to get your name on a priority list (a paper sheet managed by one person) which is available from 16.30 in the bar.
So, to secure a slot one of us has to go to club at 16.30 and another at 18.30 🙄

Nothing to do with bar takings of course.

I'm still pushing for my desk lol once the kids play area is gone I'm going for desk in the living room for them to study on / me to put a gaming rig on

Do you ever work from home though?? Will be a harder sell to the missus if not. Many years ago mine wouldn't even let me have my electric drumkit set up in the conservatory - a room she rarely even sets foot in. I just sold them in the end.

A past club of mine used to do the same. Even worse, the comp system did not go live until the following day. It was one of the reasons I left after a year, would not consider going back.

Bit hard to bring the signalling system home 😂 they frown upon that. Bit of a national security issue

She will want the desk for the kids which makes it easily sellable lol 🤣

Bins included in council tax.
Brown - garden waste - alternate Wednesday 8 summer months. But most of mine is composted
Green - recyclables (paper/plastic/glass/metal) - alternate Thursdays
Black - non-recyclables (some soft plastics) - alternate Thursdays

Online booking system.
26 visits per year.
Site is really well organised and staff are so friendly and helful, especially the "reception" booth, many suspect they are programmed bots.
They even have a large charity shop for toys, bikes, furniture etc.
The only downside, for me, of visiting is that as I walk along the platform up top I see so much stuff in the skips that I want to take home as " it could come in handy one day". 😄

I was quite lucky really. My company put our entire UK team on home contracts 2 years before covid hit, so we all got monitors, chairs & desks if we needed them. However, to be able to go onto the home contract, they went round to everyone's house to check that you had a designated area set up, as you weren't able to go onto the home contract if your set up was the sofa/dining room table/breakfast bar/bed, even down to checking that you had sufficient natural light & space - nowadays, I doubt they do that (although they are trying to get more people back in the office - luckily, our department managers have shown no interest in changing our home contracts so far).

That sounds mad. Surely some people simply wouldn't have the space in their homes for a full desk set-up? I get not wanting people to work in bed, but surely a dining table is adequate to set your laptop etc on.

it is not so much the table that is the problem but the chair. They are not adjustable etc and not made to spend hours sat upon. You won’t be in the right position to work at.
