Random Irritations

A small village in The Lake District wanting to charge 12bob if I wanted to “spend a penny”.Now that is Hyper inflation. Some of the younger members on here may not understand my irritation! I waited.

Or it's legitimate, but not having a sign saying cash only is underhand though.
Even when there is a sign it's not always noticed.

Back in the 1980s I was on business with some colleagues in Washington DC.
We had a nice meal one evening and when the time came to pay, we offered a credit card.
"Sorry, we don't take cards. Cash only".
Sure enough, they pointed to the sign at the entrance explaining this, but of course we hadn't seen it.
We were in America, for God's sake! EVERYONE takes cards in America! (Even in the 1980s)

Suppliers want electronic payment, one is in France and the other main one is in the middle of my country.
Cash recieved has to show up somehow on the accounts software and that only shows as the bank account showing a reciept of funds for an invoice. The only way I can get over it easily is to give the cash to my wife for house spending. She then does an electronic payment to my company account using the invoice number of the cash paid job as a reference. That way Quickbooks is happy and all sorted.
No problem, we are all in different situations what works for one doesn’t work for a.

I also run Quickbooks have approx £30k of cash running through the accounts a year and I don’t bank a penny of it into business bank accounts.

Aren't they donating their time and isn't that worth more than any donation they could make?

No, no it isn't.

It’s the first year I think the daughters school isn’t taking part in Red Nose Day

The new Head is in the belief that kids and parents should be felt obligated to donate when maybe they are on the breadline themselves

Did the same on world book day - no dressing up so that the parents aren’t under pressure to go and buy and outfit that’s binned after one wear

Ours went to non-uniform or dress up for World Book day and non-uniform today too, with no donation necessary. The new head teacher has also started making moves to bring the cost of uniform down, especially the PE kit. It's £60 for the compulsory hoodie.

£60 ?!?!

We get all ours from Morrisons and it’s all generic and does the business

You can get school branded stuff like a jumper or fleece but both are only £12

Two shops do the kit for the school, trackie bottoms £40, polo £40, swim shorts £20. I could go on, and that's before he loses his blazer that cost £70.

And you can’t use the stuff from Tescos or Morrisons etc ?
Nah because it's not got the badge, has to be badged up and the same brand, which is Canterbury. But the new head teacher seems to be moving towards changing it, my daughter starts there in September (hopefully she'll get in), it'll cost us around £500 I reckon.

That’s awful mate , just seems a lack of understanding of the cost

And kids go through the uniform so quickly

Over £200 per month for council tax but I need to pay more if I want the grass bin taken away?

Other parts of the country starting to catch up now

My council tax (yes some goes to the greater London authority) is £235 a month based on a 3 bed semi (4 after extension but not reflected ofc) we have had to pay to take green bins away for at least 15 years now . I have never paid just because we have a fake grass / patio set up

Yeah we've had it a while but it's just annoyed me because I've had to pay it today.

It's the same at the wife's school, which is in one of the most deprived parts of Newcastle. It's a shame the kids miss out, but I totally understand and support the decision not to participate.
