The easiest way to explain it is that it’s a manual gearbox which actually shifts automatically. It contains elements of both.

In the i10 it is an abomination. Truly awful. The lag as it shifts up or down through the gears is hideous to the point that every gear change makes the car lurch really noticeably.

Hideous cars with even more hideous gearboxes. How anyone can test drive and still decide to buy one is beyond me.

I can’t really explain it as I’m no mechanic, but it is a combination of the two. And it doesn’t work.

Robotised manual gearbox, had one in a citroen, very jerky and not great. Proper autos have planetary gears and so forth.

I also have one of those, possibly from your recommendation, for when I'm not parked outside my house.

They are trruly phenomenal bits of kit and very theraputic to use.

I got one too on this recommendation.
Trouble is, It wasn't very cold when I bought it so put it in the garage and now can't find the bloody thing!

Mercedes and Iveco had vans like that, it was more an automatic clutch which had the pauses of drive a normal manual has but they always seemed to happen when you didn't want it.
