Interested to see how this is calculated. According to the Drinkaware website "On average, alcohol is removed from the body at the rate of about one unit an hour". so 5 double gins is 10 units.

I understand that if you drank all 5 gins at once it would take a long time but if the gins are 'across the day' wouldn't some be already removed by the time the last one is drunk?

No idea but every guide goes from when you stop drinking. I suspect when you top it up it stops the break down process

But it does show just how easy it is to be over

10 units is that even a big drinking session? Sounds about 5 pints? I'm not a drinker but when I go out with drinkers they go through drinks quicker than I can finish a lemonade

From what I've been told the body starts work on the first unit and doesn't get to the 2nd until the first is finished
So even thoughnits 1 hour per unit, the more you have the longer it takes to start the last unit....
Whether that's true or not I don't know but it kind of makes sense bearing in mind the timescales.

I get that, so if you have the first double at 4 (the first unit having taken an hour then progressing to the second unit in hour 2), 2nd at 6, third at 8 and the last one at 10, by 6 you will have got rid of the 1st double, by 8 the second double and by 10 the third double - so at 10 you will only have one double in your system - that still bears up if as you say "the body starts work on the first unit and doesn't get to the 2nd until the first is finished". So why would it take 14.5 hours to get rid of the last double?

I am not in any way wanting anyone to cut any corners but interested to know the science.

I live next door to a church

Just started to have an afternoon of listening to music and they have started to ring the bells.

Anybody would think there is something special about today.

I did see something some while back that said forget about the one hour per unit if you are drinking heavily.

Blimey. You've all gone off and talked about the second half of my post, when my point was about why the need to get that drunk in the first place. Unless you have a problem

Like I said is it "that drunk" tho? It's more being aware. I mean is 10 units a lot? , it's 9-12 units in a bottle of wine. How easy is it to go through a bottle of wine?

Prob years ago people would just not realise

Being 'over the limit' sounds like a great excuse not to visit the inlaws on boxing day 🥂
Think yourself lucky, mine is with me.
It went like this with me.
missis T “ can me mum have dinner Christmas Day”. “ not a problem says me, she is on her own and can listen to my boring golf stories, plus help get rid of the rammel sprouts”.
A week later.
missis T, “ can me mum stay Christmas Eve, save picking her up and we can have a drink”. “ er, right oh me duck not a problem, even though I would of had a drink after I had picked her up”.
A week later.
Missis T, me mum is going to me sisters Boxing Day, is it alright if she stays Christmas Day night and we drop her off on the way to our daughters”. 😳 Me “ ffs she is not staying and giving me an Easter egg on Easter Sunday”.
It didn’t go down well.

Has she gone through every page and noted the things she needs to remember to watch?!
