How to tell when your traffic light is about to change to green - the cars entering the intersection on the other road are speeding up!
Maybe a software update caused it. I have a Sony Android TV that misbehaved with the Home Cinema system. Software update eventually sorted it out.Changed it for the last World Cup so it's only a year old. I'll figure something out, it's just a shame that something that worked really well, was relatively small in comparison to most bars, has started to glitch.
Don't believe everything you read in the papers. There's more to it than that. But basically this is the fallout of Major's rushed and botched privatisation in the 90'sWe are going to Bristol on Saturday and staying overnight. We planned on going by train but GWR are cancelling loads of trains on Sunday. This is happening regularly at the moment and it turns out that 60% of train drivers aren’t contracted to work Sundays. As they got a massive pay rise in the autumn, they no longer need the overtime so aren’t volunteering to work.
No mention of that in this BBC article by the Aslef official. It just echos Neilds post.Don't believe everything you read in the papers. There's more to it than that. But basically this is the fallout of Major's rushed and botched privatisation in the 90's
Because instead of bringing Sundays into the working week at privatisation one is left with dozens of companies on dozens of t&c's.No mention of that in this BBC article by the Aslef official. It just echos Neilds post.

I didn’t read it in the papers, it was on the local news and GWR confirmed it. No mention of politicsDon't believe everything you read in the papers. There's more to it than that. But basically this is the fallout of Major's rushed and botched privatisation in the 90's
Ok, so I got a little bit wrong but doesn’t alter the facts that the contracts are utter madness. The first article also says it’s 60% of GWR Staff, not 60% of train drivers.
Is there a shortage of drivers though? I was on the GWR today, Slough to Paddington and the announcer said there was a shortage of trains!Because instead of bringing Sundays into the working week at privatisation one is left with dozens of companies on dozens of t&c's.
As i said there's more to it than appears. But just because someone doesn't want to work overtime shouldn't stop the railway
But you made it look like the drivers were causing the issue! Also in the BBC article the ASLEF rep stated they’d been trying to get sunday as part of the working week for 20 years.Ok, so I got a little bit wrong but doesn’t alter the facts that the contracts are utter madness.
For something reasonably compact try the JBL compact sound bar (about 600mm wide) . I do not about HDMI connectivity though as I used mine of the bedroom TV.It isn't that. That, I looked it up on google , is about controlling from one remote. The problem currently is the box not kicking in at all on occasions, leaving the tv quiet. It doesn't go back to the tv speakers, it just goes quiet.
I had a play around last night. Annoyingly, I tried an optical cable connection and that worked perfectly. Unfortunately, the sky remote will not work with that so we would need 2 remotes, one purely for the volume . Not good. I have moved the HDMI cable around, in case it was in the wrong hole in the tv. Also played around with the tv sound connection settings. That seemed to work last night and this morning but time will tell if that has fixed it. The box is 10-15 years old, it doesn't owe me anything. The tv without it sounds rubbish though so if I do have to get rid I will be getting a replacement in January. It can't be one of the long bars though, that would not pass 'the pretty test' in the living room
It does say a shortage of Train crew is the reason though. The first article also says it’s 60% of GWR Staff, not 60% of train drivers.
The articles you linked quite clearly said part of the issue was planned maintenance and unfixed damage from recent storms. Is there a shortage of drivers though? I was on the GWR today, Slough to Paddington and the announcer said there was a shortage of trains!
Would you work a sunday if you didn’t have to?It does say a shortage of Train crew is the reason though.
It also says that since 2018 new drivers are contracted for 7 days a week, it’s the older long distance drivers are not.
Not now but when I was younger I would work every weekend I could. But that’s private sector mentality.Would you work a sunday if you didn’t have to?

Reading the article again it seems like the drivers must have quite a high average age. With 1 in 3 retiring in the next 10 years, also 60% of the GWR drivers are not contracted to works Sundays but all drivers since 2018 are! Does this mean there is a massive shortage of drivers, why? Always been rumoured about it being a closed shop. Wonder if that’s the reason?
Depends on how you look at it, I’ve only read the links you’ve posted and it seems to they have been reluctant to recruit train drivers, expecting those employed to pick up the slack via overtime etc.Not now but when I was younger I would work every weekend I could. But that’s private sector mentality.
