The Royal Variety Show.
Just watched a barely tolerable impressionist and I swear it's canned laughter and applause by the consistent volume and duration.

I thought the same on the short bit I watched. They had a male singer with long hair , no idea who he was, and when he finished you could hear instant applause and cheering but the audience was still for a second or two until they realised the song had finished and then did some polite golf applause.

My brother asked me yesterday if I had got my seniors free bus pass yet, now that I'm 65.
I checked and I'm not eligible until I'm 66.
My brother who lives in Scotland has had his since he was 60.
And he's had free prescriptions since 2011.

In Merseyside one is eligible for free bus pass, it can be used on the train as well, from 60 though only for the Merseyside area. The national bus pass is got at state retirement age, 67 for me

When I turned 60 I was living half a mile outside the Greater London boundary.
There was a London Overground station a 5 minute walk from my house.
Did I get a free Oyster card? Did I heck.

I have a sound box for the tv. Nice bit of kit, really helps give a solid sound in comparison to the tv speakers. I've had it for years, done us well (it's similar in size to an old style video recorder or a slightly bigger sky box. It's now starting to be inconsistent, not always kicking in when the tv turns on. I do a workaround but my wife can't be fagged with that and she is running out of patience with it. I fear it may be gone within days.

I've tried different connections, no difference. I have looked at alternatives and most seem to be bars which are long and noticeable. My wife wants minimal, not a bar. Weedy sound is coming my way :(

Not free, funded by the higher taxes we pay.
Someone on £50k in Scotland pays £1500 more tax than anywhere else in the UK

My parents were in the the same position as you and didn't see the need to get one. We got them one anyway and they now use the bus as much as possible, saves on fuel for the car.
I live in the highlands of Scotland, i cant think where i would even catch a bus to, into town the bus takes longer than walking. one of my staff get the bus in and takes her an hour plus to get here, its only a couple of miles. Buses and Public transport in general here is terrible.
