Random Irritations

I think the americans were calling out Cordon for not being nice person well before us. Was he not banned from a restaurant for being rude and obnoxious over there.

He has had some issues when over there but his talk show apparently was very popular

Managed to get some huge people doing his carpool karaoke thing

Brits always seem to have a shelve life in the US when it comes to tv

Can’t wait for the final Gavin and Stacey

We watch them regularly when there isn’t much on

It’s funny , heart warming , very clever at times
I'm also looking forward to it, its genuinely funny.

I'm also interested to see what Julia Davis (the actress who plays Dawn) looks like, in the last comeback show it looked like she had had the Cheeks, Chin and Lips "done" 😁

Bloody pensioners hogging up the post office queue sending slippers and books to Australia…

There is a queue of 5 other OAPs in front of me.. with boxes and cards. It’s going to be a long wait … all I want to do is drop and run.

Pensioners should not be allowed into Post Office during lunch hour

The constant flogging of Gavin & Stacey. Fair play to their media dept because they have played a great hand, drip feeding stories in the run up to Christams but blimey I'm bored of it. However much people go on about it, far more will not watch it than will.

Yes, I know plenty on here are looking forward to it but plenty don't and it's my irritation 😝
One of my favourite programmes ever. I'm deliberately going out of my way to avoid all articles about it. I want to sit and enjoy it without having a clue how it ends.

Recently because of 3 or 4 posters on here I have started to want their teams to lose at football.

I have nothing against the teams or did not have, but find I am now wanting hoping for a loss to keep them quiet.

The posters have so much bias that they cannot see another person's point of view and at times I feel embarrassed for them.

This in spades. The power of social media. A particular team I used to mildly dislike have become "please, please, anyone but them"...

To be fair, it is one of the few non repeats over the Christmas period! Read somewhere that about 60% of the programs on BBC1 and 2 are repeats. Then add in the 'Christmas Specials' that they always trot out Midwife, Mrs Brown, etc and makes me wonder why people turn on the TV over Christmas.

It's why streaming was invented 😄

Jeremy Vine - again.

His latest "look at me I'm a perfect cyclist" post on Twitter has him over-taking a stationary bus and then getting the hump with a truck who is already pulling out of a side road before he gets past the bus. The truck cannot see him so is correctly pulling out. So of course Vine goes off on one about that he had to slow down and stop. Pompous self-righteous a-hole.

But some of the reply posts are absolutely fantastic. Most of them totally unrepeatable here because of the language but a lot of them making a Christmas wish for him to end up on his arse on the road.

Your tax code is, for the most part, real time (or as real time as it can be) and is usually quite simple. Numbers denote the threshold you have been set to and letters are normally used when you have a specific deduction or allowance or in cases where you are week/month or cumulative tax.

If your code has changed in year it's because they have calculated that in this tax year you have either paid too much (tax code increases) or too little (tax code decreases) in order to recoup or refund the difference through PAYE (rather than send a refund payment). When it comes to April 2025 your code will probably reset to the "normal" for example if you have no specific allowances or deductions then it should be 1275L (£12750 threshold and L for "normal" cumulative tax).

I've had to challenge HMRC twice this year on errors that they have made and I have to say that dealing with them has been a lot easier than it has been in the past. Give them a call if you are unsure.
Been hit by a K tax code and it goes into effect immediatly... luckily the website now gives you a breakdown and comparison on prev and new tax codes... and why
  • you now get Professional subscriptions worth £xx
  • your Gift Aid Payments has been reduced from £xx to £yy
  • your Job expenses has been increased from £xx to £xx
  • you now get Taxed interest on savings and investment worth £xx
  • your Estimated tax you owe this year has been increased from £x to £xx
most of these are marginal changes.. the big change is increase in estimated tax. The SA period covers my one-off bonus, so looks like they are now clawing back via a K tax code.

Yeah, the K tax code is for uncoded income. Income that hasn't shown as normal PAYE channel. I got this a few years back when I had to go inside IR35 for a contract and the dividend income that I had received and declared as SA was added as uncoded income on top of the PAYE that I was paying under the inside contract.

The following April, the code reset itself to normal as I had no uncoded income once I had paid my tax bill in the January.

Luckily not long after that I went back outside IR35 and it then reversed that year in that I was overpaid tax YTD.

as i diig deeper, i realise this has happened because i had some overseas dividend income. However, I have already paid tax on these there. Also the total overseas divident is less under 5k. I am not shying away from paying the tax, but dont want double tax.

I would suggest that you speak to them as they may not have clear sight of where tax has and hasn't been paid. As I say, in my case it was because dividend income was uncoded from the SA as I was also paying PAYE at the time. It sorted itself out but U did have to speak to them.

@GreiginFife excellent news only 72 hours after dropping the parcel off at the PO the tracking has finally updated to "on route to the hub"

Now that's a weight off the old mind.

I don't care much if it is delayed a week but knowing it's in the system rather than this in limbo where the hell actually is it was doing my nut in

Computer components were delivered at 0953 this morning...

Pharmacists (and/or their assistants). I'm sure their training of 3-4 years is nothing more than 'Advanced Staring At Things'. 6 of them in there today. 2 permanently staring at a computer screen, 3 staring at shelves, and 1 who periodically disappeared into a cupboard.

Tonight I should have been in bath for dinner with my mate , however we both agreed with my house being sick (majority better. Better enough for me to still go) it's best we postpone until the new year because I don't want to give her family the lergy incase I'm a carrier.

Sucks though was looking forward to an evening out

Having volunteered for a short time at the hospital pharmacy I do have a bit of sympathy for why it takes so long to prepare a prescription. It has to be checked, double and treble checked. Get it wrong and patients die. Plus deciphering what the Dr has prescribed and checking that it won't kill the patient!

And they do that by staring at shelves do they :)

Wouldnt have minded so much but after a 20min wait, all they did was take a pre-prepared, pre-labelled, prescription out of a basket and hand it to me. And then went back to do some more shelf-staring.

Well no :-) I actually didn't last long as the attitude towards patients (so for me, customers) was pretty shocking. Opened at 9am, queue outside every morning...maybe start to open up at 9.02. "How long will number 24 be" - "tell them it will take as long as it takes" etc. One poor woman had to wait so long that she was really stressing about the parking charges racking up. As she finally left I quietly gave her my car park token which was prepaid. That was my last shift.
