Random Irritations

Of course his views have absolutely nothing to do with the fact that he’s a majority shareholder in 5 London-based housing development companies.
I knew there'd be a hidden motive - there always is for such poorly reasoned arguments. Just couldn't be bothered to find out what it was .
(I wonder which golf course won't sell him any land...:) )

Cost of petrol. When did it shoot up again

Yep. Local petrol station up 10p in past 7-10 days. I've been experimenting this past month or so with a change in driving style. I don't speed but tend to accelerate up to the limit quickly. Just adapting that and gradually getting up to top speed plus pretty much coasting between lights or roundabouts and my average consumption has gone from 37-44 mpg. Not yet had someone leaning on their horn behind me :-)

Is your 1 Series an auto or manual?

Interesting, in that 2 weeks ago I left to go on holiday and when I returned the price had gone up by a chunk!

Auto. Economy was much better when I first had it. I've put the change down to E10 but can't be sure.
E10 will have had an impact but it shouldn't be drastic.

I find that if you switch the gear selector to "manual" and make sure you are in the appropriate gear as quickly as possible it helps. Auto boxes can hold on to gears a little longer than necessary and to seldom utilise the highest gear very well.

The ZF box seems to have a selection that's aligned to speed for some reason, in both of mine it's (pull away in 2nd), 3rd from 15, 4th from 20, 5th from 25, 6th from 30, 7th from 40 and 8th from 45. Albeit that's just what I have found in the two that I have (both 3.0 Turbo petrol engines.

Using manual "over-ride", mainly in the 8 series, I find that I average around 33-35mpg whereas in "fully auto" it's neared 30mpg.

Maybe worth a try.

It's the birthday tomorrow of the son of some friends of ours. My wife has just popped out to get a card and when she returned she asked if I had any cash to put in it. 1/ I don't have cash 2/ He is 24 , in a proper job paying proper money 3 / He is 24!

I keep asking when will this end but apparently I am miserable  😠

I'll give it a try. Is there any value in trying E5 and assessing the difference or is the price difference more than the gains?

It doesn’t. Our kids range between 41 & 34. They still get cash in their birthday cards.
