Random Irritations

Sorry to burst your bubble but it ain't free until it has paid for your outlay/debts and interest/loss of interest on savings/etc buddy.

But at least it will be free one day.
Or he could continue paying his gas and electricity bill for ever.

I think of it like buying a car, any car.
Pay cash for it or buy it in installments that will never end.
His money, his choice.

Tbh I don't get the link between a factually incorrect statement and my finances .. considering ones based on fact and the other is based on predictions but then this forum never ceases to amaze me the amount of old man yells at cloud syndrome at play.

The micro inverters are backed by a 25 year guarantee

Battery 10 yes
Ok, microinverters are a different animal. And of course if any of them fail you can replace just that one. (But getting behind the panel to do so could be a faff).

Which ones are you using? Enphase seem to have a good reputation for very low failure rates.

Yeah they are enphase, which like you say have a good rep

Agree that it will be a faff to replace , not sure if the scaffolding is included in any replacement but hopefully won't find out

At least if one goes unlike a normal system I will have 11 other panels working fine until it's fixed so it's less of a big deal than the whole system going offline

I've read about some people who had the individual DC feeds brought through the roof and mounted the microinverters on a rail in the loft. Makes for easy replacement.

Unfortunately I don't have a loft so they are outside

Would be easier ofc

I've just seen someone on you tube describing a storage area on a boat and because it's 15 deep, it's super super dangerous. The boat apparently is also super unique.

Will it ever stop

You can take your car with you when you move.

One reason we haven’t even thought about installing solar panels is that we don’t intend to stay where we are much more than 5yrs and I’m not convinced having solar panels will add significantly to any selling value of our house given other factors that make our house sellable.

It does increase the EPC which if selling to someone who wants to rent it out will increase the value

However that said I won't be moving so it's a moot point

The battery can easily be disconnected and reconnected at a new house tho

You don't think buying a house that has little or no energy bills would be an attactive feature?
You get all the benefits without the initial outlay.
But if are thinking about moving in a few years then obviously you wouldn't be installing at 15k solar/battery system, I thought that was obvious

If I felt certain that it would be an investment that would add to the valuation my house might receive at any point in the future we came to sell, or if it made my house more sellable, then I might. But the housing market for the town in Surrey in which I live, and indeed the very specific area of that town, is driven by demand coming, to a large extent, from the southwest London suburbs rather than local homemovers - and any new owner would almost certainly look to do a loft conversion/extension of a sort that would most likely require the removal of any solar panelling system.

Interestingly, looking around the roads of period properties where I live it seems that very few have solar panels installed…for whatever reason, though very many have loft conversion/extensions. And it won’t generally be that the homeowners can‘t afford the associated costs.
