Just when I thought it was safe to go to North Wales.

Also, Shrewsbury officially to be called Amwythig.
Given that the Welsh name of Yr Wyddfa was in common, if not predominant, use for Snowdon when I was at Bangor University in the 1970s, that's hardly new news.

Since less than 20% of Welsh people actually speak Welsh I think the native’s will continue to call it the Brecon Beacons. 👍
Is that 20% of the people living in Wales or 20% of Welsh people in Wales or 20% of Welsh people in the world?
Asking for my butty.

I lived in Abertawe for a year in the 1970s. Hardly ever heard anyone say anything other than Swansea.

Renaming the Brecon Beacons is just joining in with a trendy thing going on throughout the UK. Doubt it will make much difference to what most people will decide to call it.

Being unable to login to Windows (or somehow get around login) on the laptop my last employer hasn’t bothered to pick up.

Its a decent little Lenovo and I took everything off when I finished, and my access to the company network was cancelled. But for a while I was able to login to Windows and get on. Then all of a sudden I couldn’t. And I still can‘t. It’s now over two years since I finished so no chance of them coming looking for it. But what to do with it.

Londinium to London caught on after the natives regained control.
I doubt there were any native language speakers in London after Roman rule ceased.
The native language that was spoken before Roman occupation continued in Cumbria, Cornwall and Wales/Welsh borders.
Most people in England were using a form of old German/Saxon that migrants had brought with them.

I know. But the rebranding as London seems to have caught on pretty well in the end.
Don't hear too many people referring to Bombay or Calcutta anymore either.

Trains to Wales are a big problem.
I have to endure pre-recorded announcements in Welsh before I've even arrived into Wales, as with trains from Birmingham to Aberystwyth.
My biggest nightmare would be ask for a day return to Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch (in Anglesey).

I feel a little reassured to know that I won't get lynched if I continue to say the English names.
At least for now.

Not sure why I get slightly wound up by apostrophes either in the wrong place, there where they shouldn't be, or plain missing.
Perhaps they should be abolished altogether.
I could read this one as the will of a single native.
The will of more than one native would be the natives' will.

Not even 9am and someone trying to start an argument in a thread again ☹️

Can't believe you are even surprised. Sure some simply log in to simply have an argument and no matter what the subject would find the polar opposite of the OP and argue they are right anyway. "Called "debate" apparently although I thought that meant actually conceding on some issues and seeing another point of view

Or staying out of threads they claim to have zero interest in the subject matter
