Rain, rain, rain!

Although we have recorded a further 92mm (4 inches) of rain since our last course report on the 12th January which brings our total for 2014 to 180mm (7 inches), we remain fully open but carry only.

The drainage system and ditches introduced a few years back are really showing their true worth when most clubs all around us in the county are closed or have been closed for many days, if not weeks!

Very heavy rain forecast for this afternoon so will be interesting to see if we cope with that also as I have a match tomorrow at 09.30!

That's what they are talking about for our back nine, there was talk last year that the rain had given them a good idea of what needs to be done. Nothing has yet been done but then I suspect it isn't a cheap job.

We've now got an open ditch that runs across our 1st, 5th & 6th fairways, these all are very sloping fairways side by side split by a decent amount of trees, when you look at the outlet pipes into the ditches which are drawing water from perforated pipes embedded under the fairways and higher ground, the water is gushing out of them, all this water would have been sitting on or in pockets around our fairways before, so, its a huge beneficial job.

We also have ditches down the OOB areas of the course and we have created underground ditches feeding to them, again saucer like areas around the greens which used to fill with water are now dry as everything soaks away to the ditches.

There are new areas now showing their face for the first time as water will always find its own level and alternative routes at times, but we are addressing those on an ongoing basis.

It's the 12th, 14th, 15th and 16th at ours, there are ditches but it seems something else is required

Caught a glimpse of the front page of the Mirror today - 'Army to mop up Tory floods'

Being caught in a lengthy queue in the barbers, where that rag is the only reading material, has now made it onto my list of nightmare scenarios.

Non stop rain now - many courses closing

How was Chiltern Forest ?

Hilly!!!!! Not my Cuppa but nice enough. Took Fragger with a birdie on the last !!!

We got off the course around 12 and the rain came at 12.35.
Now blistering down. Can't see anywhere around here being open tomorrow.
I suspect APGC could be closed till midweek...

Yeah it is very hilly - that's a good birdie on the last - tricky hole

It's not a course I could play regularly

Woburn is closed for the weekend but hopefully Leighton is open for at least 12 holes

Ours is open over tomorrow so going to have at least 9. When I play a couple of weeks ago I was surprised at how well the course was holding up but been plenty of rain since then.

Deluge all afternoon hereabouts - roads flooding very quickly - we're going to be closed all weekend unless a big hoover appears in the sky and sucks it all up. But I don't think that's going to happen.

We had two temps today, carry only.

I didn't play. It was hosing down when I got there at two, and I was only going to practice anyway.

I would guess it'll be all temps tomorrow.

Front nine still closed at Batchworth Park. Four of us played the back nine this morning and it was OK, but another band of heavy rain going through this evening. It's not looking good for the weekend or our Sunday comp! :(

We are open but the rain is trying to do its best to stop play, the tee boxes, fairways and greens are holding up really well considering. Greens are very soft tho so a good score can be had if you are playing well enough.

Well the rain aorund here didnt last as long as expected and the downfall in Leighton doesnt appear to be as bad as expected so hopefully open tomorrw

Sunny and dry here but for how long who knows. HID gone out to play now. I've a lesson later and then Iain is joining HID and myself for a game this afternoon. HID is also hoping to get his driver fitting done sometime in between.

LB open for 12 holes so will have the Saturday swindle today !
