Qualifying Competitions Rant

Have to say this is the same at my place other than midweeks we have one stableford per month and one medal which are on alternating courses.

The medal on our Wensum course often ends up with a CSS of 76 or more, it can be a real brute on a medal format so not normally many entrants.

I find this a little frustrating and feel it may be time for a change of club.

Why don't you have a look at playing in a few singles opens on your non competition weekends? Good value and the chance to play other courses. I've played 14 qualifying rounds in opens already this year with another 10 in my diary still to come.

I've entered a couple of pairs & team Opens but not singles, some singles are/were restricted to 18 handicaps though. I think the one I'm in at Wallasey may be singles, aren't singles usually 3/4 handicap and then as such they don't become qualifiers or am I getting muddled up?

Its something I'll definitely look into but it's a shame I have to pay out to get into more qualifying comps because my club doesn't offer more than a couple a month!

It was my first full year last year at my club so was a case of bedding in but now when I'm on a mission to attack my handicap it has become more noticeable how few opportunities there are.

No all the singles events are full handicap regardless of whether they are medal or stableford. Have a look on the golfempire website where you can drill down to county and competition type.

Weekend qualifiers at my place are as follows.
April 3
May 3
June 4
July 6
August 4
September 3
October 3
Plus there's a medal every Thursday for those able to play then.

When do people get to play social golf rather than competitive golf if there is a qualifying comp every weekend ?

Away to dig out the card and see what we have on the go...

We have competitions, whether they be qualifying rounds or trophies, pretty much every weekend of the year (well, ok, lets say 48 weeks to be safe).

It really isnt often if we dont have a comp on.

You don't have to enter every comp you know ;)

Full-Throttles home club (my former club) have a qualifier almost every saturday, even in winter off temp tee's its a measured course and SSS so still a qualifier. Something most other clubs should take note of imo.

We have a monthly stableford and medal from March to October and a weekly medal and stableford too. On top of that we have a number of honour board events throughout the year too. From October onwards we lose the medals. No idea why and I'd be happy to play them throughout the season.

Hope he's keep away from any Sprays.........

After the way i played today even the antler spray would have its work cut out.
I am the proverbial schizophrenic golfer.
I could do no wrong in the bounce game last tuesday evening, 2 under gross, huge straight drives and peppered the pin with every approach shot.Today i couldn't of hit a barn door with a banjo, in fact i'm pretty sure i managed to shank a shot with my driver !!!

Safe to say, we are well looked after by our competitions committee...they work really hard.

On the down side, can you believe at the last AGM some peope where whinging about the requirement to have 5 Qualifiers at our club citing they didn't get chance to put in 5 cards??????

To date this year I have played 32 Qualifiers out of a possible 56...... (Must try harder) :o

At my Club the course is closed to normal play until after the last competitors have left the first green. If every Saturday had a competition on then it would be well after 2pm before the course was open for non competitors.

At the moment we have

Apr- 3
May- 5
Jun- 3
Jul- 5
Aug- 3
Sep- 3
Oct- 1

There are a few nine hole qualifiers on the card as well and a couple of opens.

Can be after 5.00pm at ours we've discovered.
