Professional Golf

He was yeah, lowest finish on LIV was 11th place in the last 5 events, and his data golf stats show that he was consistent through the summer.
@Orikoru is right, though.

If we take July/Aug 2025; in LIV he was actually T17th at worst, and he was 7 shots behind the lead or more in every single one of the 54-hole July/Aug LIV events. Rounding out his record in those 2 months he lost in matchplay to Talor Gooch :D and missed the cut at both the Open and the BMW in Germany. That's just not very good. You can see why he wasn't in the frame then.

He's in scintillating form now though - not hard to see him continuing that onto the PGAT and would seem a natural character type to take to an away Ryder Cup too, so his chances for Ireland must be good if he can maintain anything like this level.

Exactly. Nobody was talking about him last year, but right now, they are. No one on the European team would want to face him in a one on one match, that's for sure. I suppose the only factor is how much he gets along with the other US players, since they don't seem to be great on harmony as it is.

Thoughts On Spieth ??

Still a relatively young man, can he get back to being a force in the majors ?
No. I think he's tinkered with his natural swing too much, like we've seen with other players in the past like Kaymer for example. Spieth always seems to be overthinking it one way or another, and has one day in every event where his swing just collapses as a result.

I have also read opinion pieces on him that basically said his success was built on supernatural putting ability saving him a lot of the time, which wasn't sustainable.

Out of curisosity how has he embraced the captains role? From that clip he has hit a golf shot and nearly got an ace.

Unlucky for it not to drop. Should have taken some off it for it not to lip out

This is an example, thought he answered the question really well.
It'll be interesting to see how they as a team perform this year, Brooks despite being a great golfer, never looked committed to the cause - I suspect Gooch will already be thinking about giving the team more identity, building up partnerships etc.

I don't think it's a question anymore, people have generally just decided that it is. It's usually a better watch than the PGA Championship as well.
I think you raise an interesting point there.
I also wonder what the players would prefer to win looking at it from a prestige point of view.

I'd love to see how you substantiate that argument Orikuru.

It's a PGAT event, ergo excludes some of the best players in the world, has very little opportunities of alternative qualification, and the whole event revolves around a par 3 hole.

It's the strongest event that the PGAT put out in terms of field strength, but it is nowhere near good enough to be considered a major.

Don't think you've understood what I was saying. I meant that I do not see anyone debating whether or not it is 'the 5th major'. I just see people literally calling it 'the 5th major'. It's just a nickname that suggests it is most people's favourite non-major of the year. And the fact that nobody really likes the PGA.

I have asked this before, and the usual answer is "History" but what do you think are the criteria for a Major? I can't see how any of them are different from every other event - virtually the same field, same format, so what makes them a Major?

So a completely different example to what you originally posted?
