Everyone is subject to the same forum rules, surely nobody is suggesting that long standing members should be treated differently.
You could argue that longer standing members should be more aware of the rules by now.

The moderators are not proactive, we respond to the content of your posts, there is a blanket ban on using asterisks to disguise expletives, so don't use them. Please re-read the rules at the top of out of bounds if you need reminding.

A single infraction is equivalent to a yellow card, by itself it is a shot across the bows, that's all. It isn't the end of the world and there is no need to throw ones toys out of the pram. It is also nothing personal, all the moderators have had to give out infractions to people they regard as friends, it isn't easy, but if we show favouritism we will be criticised , therefore everyone is treated in the same way.

Rant over

I'm only 2.63 per day, lightweight :)

I was just sad that mods can't use their discretion.
Remove the offending word, replace it and a quick pm to the offender would have been my action if I was a mod.
Then if the person persists, THEN issue the infraction.

I felt like a little school boy who had used a naughty word that you can hear on tv all day long.

Do you think we make the rules up ourselves? It comes from GM as to what is acceptable or not we only do what we are told to do nothing more nothing less.

As I said Bob, we had discretion, people didnt listen so the rules were made more black and white. It still puzzles me why people on this forum give off about it but on other forums they take it on the chin and move on.
The unfortunate thing for Fish is that had he said bloody, I doubt anyone would have even noticed.

I understand the "rule" with swearing and that when it is used in a direct reply or aimed at an individual it is unacceptable. I also understand when people put a letter in front of a line of asterix such as an "F" or similar its obvious what the word is and how it is aimed and meant to come across.

However, my asterix line was within a quote from my wife, who doesn't swear and the quote couldn't cause any offence to anyone as it was not aimed at anyone!

So with regards to "the rules are the rules", no institution could survive with such a hard line and without any discretion being shown, referee's, employee's, police and more. If we all had to follow the "without exception" rule in our daily lives then we may as well have orange boiler suits on with numbers on our back!

I'll say no more on the matter and would like my thread closed so it doesn't become a bashing for mods but I'm not happy.

I've never been one for quoting chapeter and verse..

.. However, the rules state:

3. Posts that contain swearing. I feel this also includes the use of asterisked out swear words. I think everyone on here is smart enough to be able to find non offensive ways of expressing themselves without having to resort to swearing and offending any other former.

With respect Fish, we can only work within the rule laid down by MikeH and the people at GM. We don't make the rules.

So you read it in its context and use discretion don't you! Not exercise a blanket rule.

Room 101, With respect = I don't care anyway.

Close it I've had enough of it....

I have asked this to be closed 3 times now, its my topic, why do mods think they have the right to have the last word first!!

Can't believe I've received an infraction for my post!! I used a serious of stars instead of saying "bloody" and I read much worse that that every day.

Apparently people on here REPORTED it and why, because THEY had received them also in the past so they think its right to report them also. Well what a childish attitude to have, I hope your proud of yourselves.

What a complete nonsense to treat adults in such a way.

No need to worry about my averages any more!

That's the saddest part for me. That anyone feels the need to report a string of *'s that is IMPOSSIBLE to offend anyone.

Probably the type of person that would try to give you a penalty for wiping a lump of mud off your ball on the green.
