Alan Bates did not accept OBE, because he felt he could not do so while Paula Vennells had a CBE.

They can give Alan Bates a Knighthood as far as I am concerned. For more than 20 years pursuit of justice for so many. Greatest unpaid job ever. Hero.

Wish I could give more than a “like.” For him to take up the challenge, especially who he was battling is stunning.

Fujitsu it appears have form for providing systems unfit for purpose.

Highland council brought them in to overhaul its systems and IT. A right royal balls up would be a good description, millions wasted, dozens of jobs lost, only to have yo re employ the same people back a a massive cost to council tax payers. All for nothing other than millions wasted.

Me and my Mrs have just watched the 1st episode and I watched with 😡 🤬 and 😢

If anyone is still wondering how over the last 30yrs or so the country has got into the mess it is now in, with the massive disparities in wealth and fairness of treatment of the poor compared with the wealthy, this scandal demonstrates and highlights just how.

How the greed and avarice of the bosses of big business and privatised services have worked in collusion with governments to generate great wealth for the wealthiest often at the expensive and on the backs of and defrauding the rest of the country as it has ever more and more struggled, in the end being as battered as it is today. While the wealthiest sit pretty complaining about benefits fraud and inheritance tax.

This scandal makes me sooo angry. Come the revolution.

Ave said it before, but if you think this is a scandal, then check out the miners pension robbery. It is on a par and a couple of hundred thousand people are being robbed every week.
unfortunately it is the norm re the little man getting shafted.

i wonder how much of this translates to poor behaviour with posties doing their job. Very few realise that PO and Royal Mail are different cos. My postie is lovely
Ask your postie how he is being treated by Royal Mail…😡 He’ll maybe be open about it, but he may well say that he’s not allowed to talk about what is going on and how the RM and RM managers treat them.

One of the lads who was in our fuddle is a Royal Mail union man. The chief exec was interviewed by a government select committee re wages etc. Bottom line he lied in the interview. Said PP reported said lies to his local MP. Said PP was then removed from his job and shifted to another branch in the hope he would pack it in. He hasn’t.

Paula ‘Venal’ Vennells and her corporate side-kicks should be up in court. But hey. Will they…? And even if they are they have the money to afford expensive lawyers….unlike the rest of us.

Whilst I absolutely wish to see justice done for the sub-postmasters, and applied to those in PO, Fujitsu and government, I am a bit uncomfortable about what could effectively be a political pardon (for the sub-postmasters) that overrides or bypasses the judiciary. For me that is not a great precedent to be set.

Her statement is self-serving garbage.

I have met several murderers.

Many of them were "truly sorry" for what they had done. Their sorrow was not going to help anyone or undo what they did. Same goes for her sorrow. Worthless.
A lot of people are "sorry" when they've been caught, or found out. Never sorry if they think they can get away with it.

Whilst I agree with the sentiment, is it not the case that the PO were effectively acting as judge, jury and executioner in these cases and as such any of the judgements made by them in light of new evidence should be called into question? No different to new evidence being introduced that exonerates a party previously found guilt.

Ive not watched the drama yet or read up too much beyond what is in these pages (I do certainly intend to but two kids under 3 limits my time somewhat!) but as an accountant in a large company I find it hard to believe that what is essentially an accounting system could be so open to manipulation and free-entry without, seemingly, much of an audit trail for each of the entries made. The fact that entries were able to be changed remotely without an auditable correction being made is a massive red flag to me.

Let’s be honest though .
Going down the courts route is just going to make lawyers richer.
They have had enough from these people.

The Judiciary were part of the problem !

I think for most, a quashing of the criminal records by whatever means is what they want most

Being a subscriber to Private Eye I've been aware of this scandal since at least 2011 the fact it's taken a tv drama to bring it to the wider public's attention is dreadful.
This was a major organisation quite comfortably and without remorse willing to ruin the lives of loyal employees to protect their "system " which they KNEW was inept.
There'll be talk of compensation but mark my words it won't be prompt. There'll be delay after delay. The victims of Windrush and Grenfell will tell you all about the false promises of compensation.
