Its pretty windy most of the time at my home course so im sort of used to it, sort of.

Played pretty solid going out in 1 over gross into a 40 MPH wind off the back tee's. Really looked forward to the back 9 with all but 2 holes down wind.

8 over, it was almost impossible to stop the ball, with irons and putting, in fact it made 2 of the par 5's both over 500 yards a drive and wedge/9 iron and still went though the back of both greens, in fact the only thing that stopped my ball on the 18th was the OOB post!

We were all chatting about how the wind effected our games after the round, some hated into the wind, others no so.

I would have said before i prefer down wind, but after yesterday, ive changed my mind. its easier imo to control the ball into the wind somethimes, not always,so;

Which do you prefer playing in, into or down wind?

I'm with you, much easier into the wind if you can control the flight.

Our medal round yesterday was cancelled due to the wind. It was crazy, by far the windiest I've ever played in. The balls wouldn't stay on the greens. With the wind behind it was almost impossible to stand still. In "normal" wind I much prefer playing into it.

Yes pretty crazy in out Captain's medal yesterday. Did slightly better down wind than upwind, but maybe that was because my score was already toast and I could relax! Winning gents score was net 76, thank goodness for CSS75 RO.

I feel for our ladies as one of the single figure ladies came in with a net 74 and since there were not so many strong ladies playing the computer decided is was not RO for the ladies, not fair IMHO.

Tbh, I prefer down wind and I agree with you, you sometimes have to play way short of a green for your approach. Into the wind, the ball will land softly !

Where I really struggle is strong cross winds. I tend to steer the ball and end up mis-hitting it.

Not a fan of the wind. Yesterday was windy for our first qualifier and hitting low balls is not a shot I have in my bag (must learn how though) and I struggled into the wind. A flushed 5 iron just ballooned into the air then dropped. Then as if to add insult to my game a short pitching wedge over a gully normally, had the wind behind, so a nice gap wedge was the order of the day, as I swung down the pigging wind stopped, so with no wind assistance the ball fell short.

Down wind for me being a girly short hitter. Our 9th is always into the wind and it only plays 400 yards but I hit driver and 5 wood yesterday as well as I can and still came up 10 yards short. On the plus side playing like a muppet and going up to 12 means I get a shot there again now.

If there is no hazards in front of the green I'll usually play a lower flighted shot and run it in. It's the only way I get a modicum of control. I don't get a lot of practice on real windy courses so I can struggle especially on the tee

I seem to be able to control the ball better into the wind... Like you our courses defence is usually the wind and when its up it makes it very tough....

On our 6th par 5 last week.. 515 yards uphill to a raised green... I creamed a driver right up the middle into at least a 4 club wind..... I hit 4 iron, 4 iron very well and was still 30 yards short of the green.... But i made Par....:lol:
