I'm old enough to remember Allis's immediate predecessor at the BBC - Henry Longhurst. Peter came from the same mould and he was the only one who could replace him.

I don't see why so many don't like the man yes he makes mistakes but who doesn't

I'd love to sit down to dinner and listen to some of his stories and if Terry Wogan was there as well, with both their dry humour, it would be a meal to remember.

Something about him and Terry Wogan that feels like a warm, comforting blanket to me. Happy memories of my Dad listening to Terry and watching the golf...soft voices and gentle men it seems.
