Got lost on the course

Did it on Forest Pines near Worksop last year. Walked to a tee we could see from the green. Hit a ball and by the time I had walked to it, my Garmin said distance to hole 850 yards 🤔. I mentioned this but was told it’s a black hole for golf sat nav’s etc. I got a nearest the pin on the next par three. Walked to the next and it was the 16th hole. We had missed out a loop of 3/4 holes. The tee we should have walked to was through some woods.
Only problem was bumpy the time we got to the original tee it was uphill. I was blowing out my backside. The three fourballs from our fuddle that were behind us were now in front and we were stuck behind three guys that looked like they were playing there first ever round.
When we got in the clubhouse all the fuddle lads cheered, then the blame game began re who was at fault for us getting lost.
Oh and they wiped my nearest the pin off as well 😖😂👍

I'm getting a sense of deja vu reading this post. Did you say “what the hell this is the 12th"?

Apparently it was nigh on a 1000 yard walk back up hill with a bag on me back.

9th or 10 the on Moray old can be confusing, the new course cuts across it. there is a bit of a walk from the previous green. i almost got caught out the first time i played in a comp there. the two groups in front were not so lucky, i think both got DQ because they played 3 holes on the new before realising

Frequently happens to new players where I play .

After the 4th it is a turn left (notice on a stone) just past the path and cross the road the 12th tee is to the right of the 4th green. Many a new visitor goes 4 to 12.

Seen a few come back up the 11th and go back down the 5th.

Reminds me of a story at Worplesden GC where a group of Chinese visitors when, after crossing back over the road to the 15th, they took a wrong turning and ended up playing a few holes on West Hill before someone spotted and sent them back to Worplesden.
On a side note,I am amazed they haven’t had any nasty accidents there. I play it a few times a year and always think I’m taking my life in my hands.

isnt that like the urban myth for Royal Aberdeen and Murcar. they supposedly reported their car stolen as they arrived in the wrong clubhouse.. i dont thinks true though, :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

I used to play at West Hill and was told that story back then. There are two gates on the opposite side of the road when leaving the Worplesdon course , one for West Hill and the other for Worplesdon.

That road was probably nowhere near as busy back then or when the course was built but I bet it is now (major Road from Guildford to the M3 if heading London direction bound or carrying on to the M4).

Coed-Y-Mwstwr (near Bridgend) for reasons best known to the designer, hides it's 4th hole behind a huge wall.

The 5th tee sits perfectly alongside the 3rd green. I am sure many visitors with just play the 5th and miss the 4th out, or (as 4th is a par 3) stand on the tee scratching their heads. ;)We did the latter in a Team Open. Thankfully a group suddenly appeared through a gap in the wall and pointed out that the 4th tee was a 150 yard walk down the 5th fairway, then through a gap in the wall, before playing a (decent) par 3 back up parallel from where we'd just walked. Quite mad!

I am not even sure if this is the oddest thing about this course. That said, we had a fun day out! :-)

On my course you have to walk from the 11th green, between the yellow and white tees of the 14th to get to the 12th yellow tee.
Look left and right before crossing!
Many a green fee has played 16 holes by teeing off from the 14th after the 11th. But the 17th green and the 11th green are side by side and the "missing" two holes are usually spotted.

And coming off the 5th green, you have to walk in front of the 7th tee to get to the 6th tee.
Casual games when no one is around, a group can hit their drives on the 7th before playing the par-3 6th and then walk straight to their 7-th hole drives - saves a bit of walking and time.

Playing at Whipsnade a few years back.
Slow 4 ball just walking off the tee as we(2 ball) got there..
Followed them, very slowly, down the 4th and once they'd finished they moved onto what they thought was the 5th as it's the nearest tee box...it's actually the 15th that goes back towards the 4th tee
But we didn't let them know until they passed us, about 100 yards off the tee....they went to get their balls and we snuck through....
A good move on our part....

Worth repeating:

A few years ago, we were following a really slow fourball of visitors. We waited every shot on 1, 2 & 3. As we were waiting to play our second shots at the 3rd we observed them leaving the green & walking to the 17th tee. We played our second shots while they were teeing off & had a pleasant, leisurely round. They got 23 holes for the price of 18, so everybody was happy.

Played Machrie before the modifications. On our first round, we finished the third hole and followed the path off the green towards a tee box. Tee markers were on the tee box, but standing between then we couldn't tell whether we should be going left or right? Finally spotted a marker post on top of the sand dune to the right and decided we should go that way. We all hit out tee shots over the dune, walked around it and saw the fairway, but no green. Finally say a large "X" (made from boards painted white) on the next dune and decided that was the direction we should go.
After we finished the 18th, one of our group said, "I played so many blind shots today I feel like Ray Charles."
Our stay there was great, and full of good memories.

Ripon. Missed a gap in a wall after the first I think it was and played the 10th. Totally confused with the distances my phone app was giving me that day, and other things. Also, in a society knock at Cavendish in a monsoon we were the last four out in the morning four balls team thing and lost ground on the group ahead and could not find the 8th I think it was. I saw the clubhouse lights in the distance and said write down 8 and 8 for the 8th and 9th and let's get in.

I got lost at Sherwood Forest G.C.
(only joking)

However the most confusing course was at Flamborough Head. We had to ask the members a couple of times to point us in the right direction.
Great course in a stunning location.

Not quite getting lost but we went any one Year to Princess golf club, which has 3 loops of nine.
The 1st day we played Texas scramble and one group played the Himalayas instead of the Shore course as the back 9.

Being a Scramble no one realised until the end when we were discussing the holes 😂

An American 4 ball teed off on Gullane2 and an hour or two later got chased off Lufmess by irate members [by-passing Gullane3 ]

On a society do at Laleham we watched the match in front drive off one tee in the exact opposite direction that they should have played

Didn't get lost there, but Flamborough definitely has some of the most dangerous holes in golf. Only because at one point, there are about 3 or 4 holes crossing each other, in a valley, so blind to everything around you.

Some nice views on the edge of the cliffs
