Apologies that this has probably been done before but good to get an update. Got a couple of opens coming up at courses I havent played. I use a Bushnell which is great but would also like a good (free or cheap) app that can give me an overview of each hole and all hazards.

Any recommendations?

Any help much appreciated

Not sure for apps, maybe 18Birdies or Hole19?

Could always just have a look on google maps and check the course website if they have a flyover of the holes.

Since I'm a Shot Scope user, I'd use their course planner tool since it overlays the dispersion of my clubs on the hole as well, great feature.

Could be wrong but I don’t think hole19 shows hazards in the free version. I use the paid version and it’s great, but if you’re going to use it, preview the course on their first, is my advice.

How can it not?? It's a bird's eye map of the course?

Yeah just looked about first hole and it’s all there. It’s basically an aerial view of the course
Aren't most of them? Not Skycaddie of course but they charge you for the privilege of them "walking the course". I know they used to but now ???

I can just recall looking once and all the bunkers and hazards were masked. This was a while ago and like I say I use the paid version now, have done for 5-6 years so it must’ve changed in that time.

You might be thinking of the fact that premium gets you 'HD maps', so the free version might be a bit blurry on some courses. Like you though, I use premium so I can't really check. But I vaguely recall if the image was a little blurry you might not be able to tell if it was bunker or water you were looking at.

Yep, that’s the one mate. It was a bit strange if I remember rightly, knew there was a bunker but couldn’t see it!

Hole 19 is what I use but it’s mostly because I wear an Apple watch and it’s best (free) one I find that links up to watch for current yardages.

I’m tempted to take the premium out as I don’t think it’s too expensive but not sure what extra that really gives you

I use golf pad.. Used google earth maps so easy to zoom in and out.. Touch screen and see how far to carry hazard etc. You can track your shots on the course. Press it after each shot and will map/record it and can look at it all later... I don't use that bit right enough.. . And it's free.

Has anyone had any issues with hole 19 and it syncing upto Apple Watch?
Worked perfectly fine for ages but last few rounds it’s not, not sure if there’s been an update or something, strange

Hello Birdie is a decent free app for getting a hole overview and distances. Think you can pay for an upgrade to record shot tracking etc, but I only use it on away courses to get a feel for the hole and any unseen hazards etc.
Gives me all I need in combination with my Garmin watch and a rangefinder for shots into the green.

Hole19 has an update approximately every 3 minutes (slight exaggeration but not much of one), so if you haven’t updated in a while you’re probably several updates behind. Give that a try, if it doesn’t work then their help/support function are very good.
