Unless Woodland knows the loft of Koepkaā€™s 5 iron, and how much of a ā€œfull shotā€ he hit, and how far he hits a 5 iron, I canā€™t really see how Koepkaā€™s club selection is relevant to Woodland or his caddy.

They clearly indicated what club was used but I still wouldnā€™t consider that to give any real help to Woodland.

If he said ā€œwe played it as X yardsā€ then yes, that helps.
Do they put their fingers in their ears on par 3 tees to avoid hearing what their playing partners are using?

To be honest no player/caddy chat is particularly covert... How often do we hear their chats on TV, so to think that their competitors standing a few feet away can't hear would be naive.

The cynic in me wonders if this particular occasion blew up due to the leader of the event playing for a particular tour...

Sandy Lyle at +19 makes a mockery of former champions getting lifetime exemptions. What's the point of him being there more than 30 shots off the lead? It's a bit like Martina Navratilova and John McEnroe getting an invite to play at Wimbledon just because they won it many years ago when they were good.

Why not tho? They don't kick anyone else out so not like their costing someone else a valid place

Couples is 63 and on plus 1 at the moment for the tournament

4 shots ahead than the number 2 golfer in world finished

I think it's brilliant, it's up to them aswell, faldo doesn't do it but if at any point he decided yeah I'm gonna give a go for the craic would be great to see

Each to their own, but I watch professional golf to see the best players in the world competing, not to watch some washed up has-been hack it round a golf course. The Masters is meant to be one of the top 4 tournaments in the world but they let in any former winner that wants to play. I've no problem with an exemption for past winners but in my opinion they should limit it to 5 or 10 years. If Lyle wants to continue playing then that's what the seniors tour is for.

But thatā€™s part of the enigma of the tournament. Iā€™ve no issue with it.

Yet it's no affect to the event at all. He can play either way and it doesn't stop someone else so him being there if he hacks it round doesn't overly matter

How much have we seen of him being so far behind?

If Lyle wasn't there, or Larry Mize for that matter, then they could invite two others who might actually compete.

Having past champions play for ever more is either part if the charm or an embarrassment/weakness of the tournament. Take your pick as to your view.

They don't take anyone else's spot so it makes no difference. Freddie cCouples has just outplayed Rory and many others.....

That's completely not the case

If those two turn down the invites they don't invite a single other person because if it.

It's a common misconception that it costs anyone a place
