Looking at the weather forecast it's hard to believe this tournament is going to get anywhere near finishing tomorrow.

They were always going to stop for the incoming weekend thunderstorms but after the trees falling yesterday I suspect they will also stop for the forecasted 20-30mph wind gusts for the safety of the patrons.

The Masters field is a joke but unfortunately it is what it is. At least 6 or 7 former champions that have zero chance of winning and 7 amateurs in the field this year. As far as I remember it used to be 2. Think there are 91 in the field of which 15 or so are just taking up spots that could go to contenders. If they weren't there I'm sure others would get invites otherwise a Major with 70 odd entrants would be daft.

Exactly why, plus other reasons, The Masters is not and never has truly been a "major".

Looking at the root ball of the main fallen tree, it looks suspiciously like a mature tree that had been transplanted there within the last few years??

Not sure when there was last just 2 amateurs in the field, if ever. There have generally been at least half a dozen and the further back you go, the more there were. Former criteria include: all past and present American Amateur & US Amateur champions, the entire US Walker Cup team, US Amateur quarter-finalists, etc.

Also, there are just 87 players in the field this year (was 88 before Zalatoris withdrew).

If the fallen trees were among the many that seem to be transplanted/moved then I can see the suspension of play being extended on safety grounds. A tree falling on a player (or one of the wealthy dentist patrons…) could create a huge liability for the club. It is possible that the club‘s insurers will decline further liability on the grounds that the grounds work has been sub-standard and the risks to players and patrons is too high. That would create a very tricky situation for the organisers who will be under intense pressure to keep the show on the road. Could be an interesting day…

I've only seen a short clip of that tree falling over, but was it actually that windy when it happened? There's no way a healthy tree should fall over just like that - and if indeed it has been moved to "dress up" the course, there should be some very direct questions being asked of ANGC.

Thanks for that, I knew I could rely on someone on here to correct me. The year a guy from my club played in it as amateur champion there were 3 ams.

Gusts of about 25mph, clearly should not enough to blow a healthy mature tree over.

The biggest question is will the caddy bring the whole bag🤔
Undoubtedly the biggest question but question 2, how long will he warm up / practice for? 😄

I'd have thought a cuppa, bacon buttie (I'll allow pancakes as it is the US), 3 practice putts and off you go. Anything more is milking it.
