The Masters 2025

Pace of Play at the Masters.... pretty sure I heard Rose say in an interview that his group had been put on the clock on Sunday. He was on screen a lot over the 4 days, and he did take a painfully long time over some shots (particularly tee) as he rehearsed that crouching tiger hidden golf swing move. He wasn't alone in being slow either, wonder if there's anywhere to find if others were also put on the clock?
Even with Bryson taking an age over every shot, he and Rory still had to wait a fair bit. Which is unusual for the last group.

I watched the entire final round and didn’t think it was slow.

It felt like there was always action and I wondered if not everything was live. But it didn’t feel slow to me.

When Rose talked about that, it was in answer to a question about playing with Zach Johnson. He was basically saying he really likes playing with Zach, although they were put on the clock which was difficult. It felt like he was implying Zach is not the quickest golfer.

I suppose you are going to get lots of shots that are hit at the same time over multiple groups they are showing. Not just the shot, but the build up and reaction to the shot. So, the broadcasters will possibly just have one group that they tend to show purely live, and then squeeze in shots from other important groups as close as possible to being live. It'll be why we hear roars or cheers sometimes, and then a minute or two later we'll see the shot, recorded as though live (i.e. the commentators don't start with "here is what happened earlier")

I saw all of JR’s interview at Augusta in the press room courtesy of the Masters YouTube channel — he was complimentary to ZJ as a playing partner but very subtly alluded to ZJ being a bit slow….talked about how it’s hard being put on the clock when you’re challenging for a Major win…I think in his wording and phrasing it was a very polite but subtle point at ZJ

The leaders teed off at 7:40 didn't they? And they were done before midnight. So that's about 4 hours 15 minutes? Ok they're playing two-balls but that's not crazy slow by tour standards is it?

If correct......

In the last two Masters, the Thursday and Friday threesomes have toured the course in an average of five hours, 17 minutes. The weekend twosomes are averaging 4:09.

Don't think this has been mentioned much but I thought the crowds were really good this year. Support for Mcilroy, Rose and Dechambeau was pretty equal over the four days. I think I only heard, "Get in the hole", once and that was on the play off hole.
I get that it will be different at the Ryder Cup but was refreshing that the crowds were involved with the players as much as we were watching on TV.

I really enjoyed the Masters this year, not just because Rory won or Rose did so well but because everybody played their part, even the pundits, yes the pundits, who know more about this beautiful game than we ever will.

Not only did Rory win but "Golf" did too.
