LIV Golf

I got up early to watch a classic Rahm v Bryson showdown and just sat there in shock as AK played them both off the course.

From what I could gather from the commentary team he was famous for his fist pumps when he was younger, well it felt like he was fist pumping on every hole on the back 9.

No one gave him that, he was one shot off the course record in the final round.

What a story for Liv to push, there has to be a documentary on his life now!

Some 'what if' musings.

Would have been easy to defer the Kim to 4Aces move decision until after Adelaide - will be some happy people!
Could have been a wild card winner.

Then, imagine the visa challenge weren't resolved in time!

There will prob be lots of sporting sliding door moments for people

Not sure how true it was but apparently the PGAT were also looking to get him back but LIV had the money to make it happen for me

He got a huge stroke of luck and has certainly taken it with both hands

He has clearly worked hard to get his game back and that can only be applauded

I wasn't in the 'Reed hater' club, and am enjoying following his DPWT journey for a few more months.
4Aces managed two 3rd places, can only speculate but looking at the 2nd to 3rd gap in Riyadh there's a decent case they couldn't have placed higher without the comings & goings

Just watched the highlights again, couldnt be happier for the guy.

If my calculations are correct AK is going to move from 847 to around 204 in the OWGR.

I watched days 3 and 4 in full and it was some of the best golf Ive probably watch in a long time.

The storys and the coverage.

I am still spewing they missed the coverage of Sergios albatross on day 2. It was his only one ever. And no coverage of it other than the last few seconds of it going in the hole.

I know people on here (who maybe didn't watch it) will challenge this view, but as a golfing spectacle, outside of some of the majors, it will be hard to beat this year.

Looked like we were going to see 2 giants of the game slogging it out on the final day with Rahm and BDC, while AK would be there just appreciating being in the final group and hopefully fighting for a podium, and instead we see Kim find some of the best form of his life (which he has been building up to - make no mistake) and take the course apart. His putter was on absolute fire, and from tee and fairway he made very few mistakes.
The last shot he hit on 18 was a gem - straight at the flag and he was walking after it before it even landed, just a few feet over the bunker - he knew he'd got it in the bag at that point.
Crowds and atmosphere were incredible as we know we'll always get with the Australian fans - an incredible storyline of fighting back from a place no man wants to go. It had it all. (y)

IMO It is legitimately the first time Liv has truely added to the golf world with this story.

Liv is the only place this could have happened and im not saying that as a Liv is great statement
If he had gone back to the PGA Tour he wouldnt have been given 2 years to turn his game around, he would have had a number of sponsor invitations missed a bunch of cuts and goodbye.
Liv gave him time and a revenue stream when he was still finishing near the bottom of leaderboards rather than nothing for missing a cut.

Yes if a Rahm or Dechambeau win another major it will be great for Liv but will it means people start watching Liv more ?

If AK can continue this level of play and start heading towards the top 50 in the world people may start tuning into Liv to follow this story.
Liv could never have dreamed in their wildest dreams they would be handed this marketing golden egg from a player who in comparison cost them peanuts.

For reference at the start of 2025 he was 1850th in the world, he is now 203..

It’s a shame that the win by AK can’t just be enjoyed for what it is , someone taking a second chance given to him and working hard and getting his reward

Its now being used all across some social media channels as someone to drive that toxicity and divide from both sides - LIV and PGAT

Just enjoy a great story for AK

Think this is a good article about it all

This is a real sign that the AK story has transcended the divide which is so refreshing.

No Laying Up have made no secret of their dislike of LIV Golf.

To hear them using words like Awesome & Iconic is remarkable.
On the same pod they also listed things they love that Liv are doing that the Pga Tour aren't like micing up the caddies.
They sighted that listening to AK and his caddies conversation was so additive to the viewing experience.

With the hype and it being golf, AK will probably be T40 next time out 😆

At the other end, one of the changes this year is how standings / merit points are allocated. Was just to top 24, now it is to whole field (obviously small points at bottom).
This will count against players who miss weeks. Maybe better for the more consistent middle order players.

Before starting, I was thinking it will likely be a farewell year to Poulter & Westwood (mind, did say that last year as well!). Maybe Mickleson also.
Poulter has actually started better, currently 37th. Westwood & Mickleson have missed 2 weeks, so all to do.
Kaymer missed one week also.
