To balance things a little, the pga comp is a pro am, I think, over 2 courses, definitely. I know everyone likes to make a fuss of Pebble Beach but this tournament is Mickey Mouse. I tried watching it last night but quickly gave up.

Shiels said on his podcast yesterday that the division and diluting of fields does seem to make people less interested in watching

Looks like golf is being watched less
6 nations started last night Tony.
Probably a few watching that instead of golf.
I watched rugby and Pebble last night.

Niemann looked very good.

Big caveat, just one round, the evergreen Bland - what a few years he has had. And Canter, thought he was a bit unlucky not being picked up after some of the later events last year, but think he'll play a fair bit anyhow.

I dipped in and out of watching last night, was surprised how little golf was actually on show.

Given it is a shotgun start, so there should be action on each hole, this view was also a surprise, with the commentators at the time even saying “oh, not a lot going on there”:

From what I watched, the music only seemed audible on the tv from the holes I’m guessing were near the stage etc, but it really put me off. Also seemed to make Rahm back off one of his tee shots too, just couldn’t seem to get comfortable. He will need to get used to it.

Credit to Niemann, played a great round of golf! Looked like playing a few events recently certainly helped him.

Worth remembering that Joaquin Niemann is just 25 years old - he's got a lot of golf ahead of him, but he showed the kind of player he is in that round yesterday. Be interesting to see whether he attacks again today, or if he tries to maintain his advantage over the field. Some quality players behind him who will only have the option to try and chase him down.

I mentioned last year, the 'show loads of golf' that was very present in the early events has been gradually eroded away, and it's not too far off 'traditional coverage ' now.
Whether that is a conscious move to aim to placate those more used to that style I don't know. Several on here found the early pace/volume of shots an uncomfortable change.

Interestingly both Morikawa & Cantlay have been talking about a hope that the changes there might lead to more golf being shown.

I, for one, would welcome that becoming the new 'battleground' - who can actually show more golf!

An addition which I do like to the format this year is having all scores to count on the last day - there's no hiding place now for the high scoring player.

Ortiz is currently 5 over and would knock the Torque score down from 13 under to 8 under. Lahiri isn't counting for the Crushers (currently 8 shots back of Torque) if you add in his score they are just 3 back and in 2nd place.

Every shot counts. (y)

If all the scores matter in the end, why not just have them counting all the time?

"Every shot counts" is a phrase used by LIV mate. It wasn't meant to be taken literally - although I can see why it would be from the way I'v phrased my post.

The point I was trying to make is that players can no longer turn up and not perform - something that LIV was routinely criticized for in the first two years. It's no longer 'exhibition golf', when all the players are going to have some input on the final leaderboard.

Digressing slightly but Lee Westwood needs to pull his finger out, cos yet again he's at the wrong end of the leaderboard - another bad season and he really needs to look at taking a non playing role so the Majesticks can strengthen their team - Teams shouldn't be able to have shared captaincy, or if they do, only 1 player should get the immunity from relegation.

Reading the format though, it says all team members scores count in the 3rd round to settle the team standings, so it reads as though every shot does indeed count, but they don’t add the worst players score in until the last day. Or am I reading that wrong and it is something else?

I gave LIV a genuine watch last night, and my opinions on it are genuine.

Would agree re Westwood, didn’t even see him hit 1 shot yesterday in the 2 hours or so I watched. And yes, each team should just have 1 captain.

I’m not sure why you feel the need to call everyone mate, buddy or pal but it’s pretty annoying.

No problem.

It's the final day scores that count, so the first two rounds scores from the highest player wouldn't be in the total.

Likewise, the 3 lowest scores from today will add to the team total - regardless of who shoots them, so Ortiz could add to the team total score today while Niemann might not..

This is a major problem with the LiV supporters. The cannot accept any criticism of the product.
They will jump to its defence no matter how the opinion is presented or was formed.
Its worse on other socials where the bots will pile on.

Yesterday someone commented that only 6500 people were watching Rahm hit his first shot on LiV. A simple fact, but the bots piled on and attacked, with lots of whataboutery and unrelated nonsense.

They appear very blinkered and take their defence of the tour very seriously.

You do know LIV is behind a paywall on You Tube in many countries whilst being free to access by other means, don’t you BiM?
