Assumed part of the drive to TV in the US was to pacify/lure the senior US audience, many who couldn't manage streaming. (PGAT average viewer age alleged to be 64). The same demographic were oft quoted with not liking golf in 'other time zones'.
Agree it does seem odd though, generally sports are live or highlights only for me.

And there was I thinking the whole point of LiV was to bringgolf to a younger audience and thereby grow the game.

It's the first proper year of the format and they seem to have ticked off so many of their targets already that I can't see it folding for at least 2 years. Though that's still dependent on continuing Saudi funding. The team format allows other sponsors to invest, now that a proper structure exists, though I'm not a fan of such mnufactured teams. Chacarra could well become a star too (or simply fade into overpaid mediocracy).

Do we know what their targets were, to what timescale and how they have been met? I've not seen anything published. I do agree though that it will continiue through the next two years, as PIF have guaranteed funding to at least then.

The team aspect was propsoed from the outset, over a year ago, how many sponsors has it attracted so far?

That's not the sort of info I would expect any org to divulge. I don't believe the franchising of teams, if that what they intend, was on their agenda last year, which they described it as something like their 'beta year'. I expect the team aspect to be pushed even more this year. It's the one real USP of LIV - though not something I'm a fan of!

But if it's not about teams, it's just more PGAT golf......only more expensive. :)

Then how can anyone say they have met their targets, semms to me you arer swallowing the rubbish that comes out of GN mouth.

They have been talk about franchising of teams for a long time, someone on here even saying they could expect to get upwards of $1billion in sponsorship for this season. Don't think anyway has seen as much as a $1 so far.

What targets? I very much doubt they will actually achieve that $1Bn figure, however they seek it - PIF excepted of course! FWIW, I expect them to (only) start looking for team sponsorship once the series (or league) starts. And, unlike you seem to be, I'm not anti-LIV; nor am I pro-LIV!

As widely expected,The Open his confirmed LIV players will not be specifically excluded from this year's Open. s per the statement, it wouldn't be 'Open' otherwise!

So the same as last year - well apart from removing the Presidents Cup players

The LiV players just need to find a way to qualify

And the 149 previous years. Dropping qualification via The Presidents Cup was not specific to LIV - there were 2 non-LIV players that lost exemptions too. And Ryder Cup players won't auto-qualify either - from next year.
As seems typical with discussions about LIV, not just on here, there's a lot of selective reporting, according to individul attitudes to LIV!

Not sure if it can be discussed without the need for anyone to pop their pro/anti tinted specs on but I’ll give it a try…

Leftie aside, it’s interesting to read about the latest players/brands to end apparel sponsorship deals involving prominent LIV players. From what’s being written it looks like the aim is for each team to have uniforms/team kit, which obviously doesn’t really work if players in a single team have different apparel deals

So with several captains coming out/already out of their deals they can now look for replacements (which I wouldn’t have thought would be too hard) so through this year I guess we’ll see several teams introduce team kit, that’ll naturally be for sale, as it is with other sports. No doubt it’ll take a long while to take off… but would be massively helped if a player like DJ was to win a major this year

Although I looked at the price of liv golf caps some weeks back and thought they were very expensive. And if shirts are similarly priced it won’t help. I guess a ceiling price might be what someone pays for a football shirt etc

I suppose the true measure of whether its a success or not is if fake kit starts getting made then we know its going well :sneaky:

I think some peoples heads would implode if any of the liv players won a major

Would certainly put the pgas nose out of joint aswell.

They have some more than capable players
