Our club requires a player to have played 6 qualifiers in the past year to be eligible to play in the clubs singles and pairs KO competitions. Some people are unhappy about this and I wondered what the typical number might be. My old club for example stipulated a minimum of 3 qualifiers. What is the requirement at your club?

I guess ours in 3, as it is for eligibility to win prizes in any competition.

It seems strange that anyone who's entering a competition where they might have to play 6 or 7 matches in a few months can't manage 6 qualifiers in the last 12 months.

I guess some people for whatever reason can't make the weekend comps but can arrange matches midweek or after work ( in Summer)?

I agree though, 6 comps in a year shouldn't be that difficult.

Only restrictions are that they must have a "c" Handicap

i would question why someone has a problem with playing 6 qualifiers?

Only requirement is for a "c" handicap, only comp where that is different at ours is club champs (net part) where its 5 comps including 2 medals since the prev years

Why?
If people are going to cheat and be bandits then no amount of playing comps will make any difference.
TBH things like these kinda rules just put people of, members should have the choice of playing whenever they want, they lay their membership just the same as everyone else. If they don't want to play qualifiers but play knockouts, that should be their choice.for I get them to play 6 qualifiers to be allowed to play in a knockout tournament serves no real purpose IMO.

Does it matter? 3 comp with rubbish scores or 6 comps with rubbish scores....then magically a "day in the sun".

If you are minded to want to hold your handicap at an inflated level then you would still do it be it 3,6 or however many rounds needed to qualify.

The 6 qualifiers is not onerous over a year at most clubs, and like most clubs a "c" handicap (3 qualifiers) is all that is required where I play.

We probably run 70+ individual qualifiers you could play in a year across both days at a weekend, midweek and the home of most protecting "c" handicaps the 9 hole qualifiers.......

We had a minimum of 3 qualifiers until last year when it was changed to just a 'c' handicap. The reason was that we have quite a few people who join the club in advance of the new season who and it seemed unfair that they should be barred from playing the match play competitions in their first year.

Why are people talking about Bandits and cheats ? How did it become about that ?

At my previous club there were a couple of guys who kept their handicap `c` by only playing supplementary cards but kept winning/runners up in knockouts.............I think this has now changed after it was discussed through committee after a few complaints, so it can happen

Just be a member with an active handicap at ours, which is as it should be in my opinion.

No need to create extra hassle and pressure by making up criteria etc. Let them play.

That's stupid - our club you have to have an active handicap - so I suppose 3! We have the singles KO, Pairs KO and Medal KO. But the medal KO you qualify for in the first two medal competitions of the year!

Ours is still 3 I think.
But our new Captain is trying to knock down barriers and get more people into competitions - for a number of reasons.
Unless it's oversubscribed with people not playing matches in good time I can't see why you'd make entry more difficult.
Is this some kind of "Bandit" protection policy?
