Is a new LIV Golf vs PGA Tour event on the cards?

We've got 4 guys playing against each other in a few days time - I can see no reason why it couldn't be 20 guys playing against each other in 12 months time

I can't see that there'd be any interest in that. Personally I only care about individual players, not which tour they're on. And they already compete with each other in the majors.

There would 100% be interest in it, especially the way they’d ramp it up and spin some sort of rivalry in the media, Americans in particular would lap it up, wouldn’t be all that interested personally but would still watch like most, which in turn gives them their viewers

That's the nail on the head though. It's all media-spun nonsense. Most regular golf fans either a) hate LIV with a blind passion, think their golfers should be strung up, and would not tune in to watch them play, or b) are completely indifferent to the whole thing.

It's the same every major with the media "Which LIV golfers are playing, how will they stack up against the PGA players - will Rory have to play in a group with LIV players." No one cares. We just want to see the best golfers play golf.

Don’t disagree at all with your sense / logic…

However, AFAIK, and have read, that’s exactly what has happened to the Ryder Cup in recent times - esp since Kiawah and the debacle of Brookline

It never used to be so gung-ho and hyped up

The Sky Sports Hype machine is constantly working in premier league football, boxing, the modern Ryder Cup —- any media-spun hype about LIV vs The PGAT wouldn’t be an anomaly in how sports media is

Definitely mate you’re spot on and they would then get all those buying into the hype and tuning in, probably folk like me not that bothered but tuning in out of interest or for some good players/golf on show, then those not tuning in and couldn’t care less.

The first two would give them their viewing figures to continue the spin/hype, sad really but it is what it is

The Ryder Cup is vastly different because it’s all about the nation you are playing against and for

It’s been very “gung ho” since the 80’s when Europe started to be more competitive and the likes of Seve were getting stuck in

Personally I am not interested one bit.

Just a thought but I would be interested in a field of golfers and no one saying he is from the PGA, he is from LIV. It don’t interest me one bit. Just play golf

Not interested in particular, would probably watch bits and pieces if there was nothing else doing that day.

Where the Ryder Cup - and probably the Solheim Cup too - have an edge over any other current or future team event is that it isn't just tour v tour, it's continent v "continent". Lots of people wouldn't care if Nicolaj Hojgaard beat Wyndham Clark any given week - or if Cam Smith beat Jason Day for a LIV v PGA tour comparison. However, the added element of "nationality" makes the Ryder Cup a lot more compelling than simply tour v tour.

Is this something that would really be of interest? I can imagine it would be intriguing in the first year or so of LIV, because that is all that was talked about in golf. But today, going into 2025, it is old news.

I'm not the best judge. Personally, my interest in golf has free falled since LIV, certainly in regular Tour golf. Never seen LIV, never really watched DP World Tour and no longer watch PGAT. I'll watch the Majors and Ryder Cup, and even then I tend to only watch the last round of the majors, whereas I used to try and watch as much as I could (would even take Thursday and Friday off work when the Open was on, no longer have any desire to do that).

For me, golf seems very fractured and I find it impossible to generate any interest in any of the different parts of it now. So, creating another type of tournament where LIV play PGAT seems pointless. To me.
