• We'd like to take this opportunity to wish you a Happy Holidays and a very Merry Christmas from all at Golf Monthly. Thank you for sharing your 2025 with us!

I know its a friendly but....

I just want to know how Welbeck keeps getting a shirt!
No Ross Barkley either, scandalous.

Because England have no left sided midfielders of any note.
Welbeck, although right footed, has a fabulous work ethic and has the discipline to track back and help his full back when required.
He'll also threatens the goal at times & would have scored twice if it were not for Schmeichel, the obvious man of the match, and has scored 8 goals in 22 appearances for England, that's how!

Watched it last night thought Jack Wilshire looked lost in that set up , the subs made the game better , well Lallana coming on & Sturridge going centre forward seemed to work better ...
I think Ashley Cole is in bother of making the panel , the young boy Wright (?) and Baines should be ahead of him..
Smalling looked lost aswell but Jags will play there ...Cant decide on Sterling , i dont think he is good enough yet tho

Not sure about JW. Lots of hype and promise but little end product. I'm not sure whether I would take him as he's also an injury waiting to happen, glass ankles don't help!

What more can Sturridge do to play in his favoured position for England? Just wish he'd stop that stupid dance whilst pulling a duck face when he scores

I'll let you know at tea time on Saturday!

Hopefully you'll see what all the hype is about! Not sure about the result though, we're struggling for goals at the moment, and you seem to be doing well at home, reckon unless one of our strikers finds their shooting boots we could go home empty handed.

I've only gone and agreed to give a lift to two Saints fans.... I've told them that it's a 40 mile walk home if it's a win for your lot!

Hart, Foster & Ruddy with Butland as next generation.

Of far more concern is the lack of right-backs and cover for Jagielka & Cahill.

That and the pedestrian pace at which the ball is moved when compared with the leading contenders sadly diminishes any optimism created by the emergence of some decent young players.

Flanagan at Liverpool looks a good prospect. Him and Callum chambers will be battling out for right back next season.

You are joking right? Most of his goals are against lower level teams. Lallana should play wide left, no question. Welbeck gets in as plays for UTD. But give it a year or so and they'll not qualify as a big club anymore.....

Welbeck is a truly awful footballer - how he is an England player i will neever know - its harking back to the days of Carlton Palmer and Andy Sinton and Geoff Thomas. Awful.

I'm not sure Flanno has the turn of speed to survive internationally. He'd have to add a lot to his game to make up for it IMHO, although Baines did over time. He's having a good few months at Liverpool, but still needs to prove himself over a longer period for me.

If it was the same time last year Kyle walker would have just shaded Johno for me, as both were in very good form, but this season they have both nosedived.

That makes Hodgson & Fergie truly misguided managers then ................... come on Phil, get a grip.

I thought Welbeck looked the bees knees 2 years ago, but he hasn't progressed since. Look at his goalscoring record last year. I still think there is a good goalscorer in there, somewhere.

As much as I hate Fergie, Hodgson should not be mentioned in the same bracket as him. Hodgson thought Konchesky was a footballer.
