This has been an ongoing discussion in the battle cruiser after the weekend knock for a few weeks now, with a fairly wide range of views, so:

If the top 50 Pro's were to play your home course in a competitive environment, how do you think they would fare?

I vaguely remember an arcticle along these lines in GM a year or so back, can't remember either the Pro or the outcome :o

They would tear Stoke Rochford to shreds. Too many driveable greens, par 5s that would be driver and wedge etc.

Barry Lane was -4 for the first 17 holes when he opened the course in 2005 before losing a ball down the last and he isn't anywhere near the top 200 let alone the top 50. I would be surprised if they didn't come close to breaking 60 on it. A tough track for county players and club pros when they play events at Ascot but a top golfer would crucify it.

Most courses would be little to no contest for todays pro's. Alot of par 4s would be either drivable or a drive an a flick with a wedge.
The courses the pro's play are so long its unreal. Its the only defense alot of courses have, you take the length from a course and its defenseless.
All but 3 of our par4's would be drivable and the par5's could be hit in two with ease.

The gulf between a scratch golfer and a +3 golfer is massive, let alone +3 and one of the Top 50.

Playing off an average length course under 7000 yards they would destroy.

There are regular scores of -7 on courses that are very long and set up purposely to be difficult with greens that are designed to test the best.

Our local courses would not just have their pants pulled down, they would need to go and find them also.

Ash!!

When Ross Fisher won a big amateur event around our course in 2004 he was three or four under for two rounds. Par 69 with only two par 5's make scoring under par a bit harder. Steve Richardson ex Ryder Cup player has professional course record with a 63, six under. When the course is soft it would be be eaten up, but when it is running fast, with hard quick greens more of a challenge. Pin positions like the Forum day and it could be carnage !!!:)

Put Rory, Lee, Luke and Martin on our first tee and watch the fireworks start.
A 58 or 59 wouldn't surprise me at all.:fore:
Hell, if I can shoot 66.......................:whoo:

I think all the courses near me would get torn apart, the one I play at sometimes does have very thick rough, so it would be easy pickings for a tour pro, the other one near me that I haven't played yet is bunker less which would make life so much easier as they could be so much more attacking

would be a dream to actually watch them do it though. just to see where they could hit there drives to and watch how it should be done.

Just tracked through the front 9 of my home course on golf shot gps and I think a tour pro would smash it. 3 driveable par 4's (for them). The two par 5's easily in two and think they could throw it on the green on the 3's. Would love to see it though.

We have 1 par 4 that I think they'd have a good chance of holding the green from the tee - lots of birdies there and a handful of Eagles for them I reckon. The rest of them would be a good whack and a flick into the green.

The par 3's would be a walk in the park for them I reckon - the first two are relatively short, it'd be a flick with a wedge for them. The two on the back 9 are a little longer - but they'd still give themselves birdie chances all day long.

I dare say there'd be a handful of Eagle's and a whole bunch of birdies on our first two par 5's - the two on the back 9 are harder, but I still think they'd have no trouble.

I reckon the thing they'd find hardest is the bunkers - they are shocking. It's like hitting through clay sometimes, god awful.

Our course's only real defence is the fact that it is a very exposed inland links style layout. If the wind wasn't blowing (which admittedly it invariably is) they would absolutely murder it. Most par 4's off the back tees are a drive and a mid iron or wedge for me, so they would have no problem driving at least five of them that I can think of.

Even if the wind was howling I can't see them having too many issues with it.

i think our course record is 62, with a par of 68, and that was just by a scratch player having a good day, unless the pins were cut in really nasty places, id expect 58/59/60 at worst.

The only issue they'd have would be the speed of the greens. I bet they haven't putted on anything as slow and bobbily for years.

Even then, I reckon that 40 would be under par and 10 would break 60.

They would absolutely destroy my place. They would be able to drive 7 (seven) Par 4's so scores in the 50's would be on the cards.
