Ilfracombes quarry hole is between 55 and 90
And it’s by no means easy especially if the winds into.
Very hard to grab a pitching wedge for a short shot.
Sloping green back to front and left to right makes the landing spot very small.
However when the pins front right it gathers the ball and I believe maybe 5 or 6 holes in one last year.

Short doesn't always mean easy does it....
I've hit everything from 7i to SW into ours..

Ours is 131 with the sloppiest green on the course.

Most of the really famous/memorable holes in golf are the shortest on the course. 12th Augusta, Postage Stamp, 17th Sawgrass 7th(?) Pebble - it never fails to amaze me that designers of new courses make all the par 3s 160+ - once a par 3 gets long then by definition the green/bail out area must be larger and all the jeopardy is removed. We all remember the short par 3s rarely the 200+ ones.

125 yards. Pond in front, 3 bunkers left, water ditch right, slopng back to front with a run of at the back and a quite narrow green. It can easily be a card wrecker

Par 3s should test your iron play imo.

175, up hill, bunkers short, one side and long, RBS hill (bail out bank) on the other side. Course would do well to have a short par 3. Many's the time that all par 3's have required the exact same club.

My ideal course would have 4 par 3s, with them ranging in length from 1 at about 120, 1 at 145, 1 at 170 and 1 at 205.

But yes, generally I think it’s the short par 3s that are the better par 3s...8th at Troon, 12th at Augusta, 9th at Lytham etc

We have a course nearby that is about 40 years old and was designed on a relatively large flattish tract of land. The designer contrived to only put 3 par 3s into a 6600 par 72 course and they are 177, 170 and 169 all flat. Also they are all even numbered holes so when playing 4somes league matches the same player tees off on them all.
The epitome of unthinking design.

8th is 139 off the back tees at RAGC. The mens tees often brought forward so more like 115/125. Tricky green, often between clubs too.

Coodens is the 3rd. 160 from the back tee. Looks fairly flat and featureless, but 4 bunkers that can catch you out, (you can only see the front left one from the tee), and OOB tight(ish) on the right....

5th. About 145 yards off the medal tee (strangely longer off the yellow tee).

A tricky green to hit with a prevailing cross wind. Green has steep run offs too. Not an easy par 3. Great hole though.Screenshot_20210213-235521_Chrome.jpg
