In keeping with the thread, was up at the crack of dawn this morning to get some holes in before work. Didnt quite happen with the fog so ended up with a bit of wedge focus from 50-80 yards, which is an area I think I am very poor.

I tend to complicate things a bit and try to manipulate the shot too much, so was just taking a bit more loft and hitting it. Seemed to work well with better contact/ distance control etc. Given me something to work with.

Do you have markers at those sort of distances. How are you measuring how far it goes?

Its an area I struggle with. Sometimes I want to take the 52 degree and go for a half swing or a 58 and a 3/4 swing but in both cases I don't seem to commit or swing hard enough and often come up shot. Distance control work much needed. I have some small cones (football training) so plan to set them out at 30, 40, 50 60, and 70 and set my bag where I'd stand and laser it and try and get the ball to land in a little square at that distance

How close do you expect to get from 70 yards?

I admire anyone who gets up early to practice,I admire anyone who practices during lunch or after work.
To me that shows dedication wether to improve or maintain.
What I don’t admire is people that pick holes in people and what they do,purely because they can’t be bothered and have no dedication to improve.
I practice like mad and I bet you it’s more than Homer, but one thing I wouldn’t do is post what I do just so some numpty can pick holes in it.

Interesting response seeing as this thread is about practicing

Third day in a row at the club for early morning practice before work. There’s always 5-6 balls with alternate clubs through the bag then short game area then putting + work on any particular club that underperforms

Today it was trying to eek out more distance with driver. For my current swing I’ve kinda accepted now that ball position inside lead foot is not for me and the strike and distance is better if I go middle of stance, also narrowing the backswing arc lets me swing faster (more like an iron backswing)

Are you seeing progress, especially around the greens. You doing any bunker work?

Round the green is definitely improving (fewer miss-hits and more stopping in one-putt distance) but I've been working on short game for some months and there's no quick fix for it. Our short game area is really good so can practice various distance on fairways, slopes/banks etc and chipping out from 1st and 2nd cut
I usually leave bunkers for weekends (when I'm not going straight to office) getting covered in sand before a full shift isn't fun, I can get out ok but leaving it close is more good fortune. The course has its fair share of bunkers but I'm pretty solid at not going in them in the first place, so bunkers shots are the ones I tend to practice least

Keep the hard work going. If only we could get some work in before work in the UK now.

Maybe you shoukd post it, it may help others or you may get a golden nugget of advice to help. Practicing is a personal thing. I tick over the swing in the winter months, unless im making big changes which is rare.

Theres a guy at our place who religously practice's, got all the training aids known to man including an eyewatering expensive launch monitor and he still cant get his handicap down past 9. I admire him for his commitment though.

Another couple of hours this morning (12 hours working specifically on swing plane and rotation) I feel like my takeaway is much much better and I am now really getting into the right position on the downswing too. I think having structured practise and instant feedback has really helped (the app plays a replay of the last swing and carries on recording.)

Is there a thread or area to upload swings etc. I've had a look through the ask the experts section but not seeing too much of it? Would it be worth us starting a thread for swing feedback? or is it one of those things that's been done to death?

I've posted mine a couple of times, but the only guy who's a teaching pro/maybe former teaching pro is bobmac, and he's taking a break from the forum at the moment. If you're happy hearing the thoughts of a bunch of hackers then fire away. 😁

I agree keep your swing to yourself.
The important thing is you’re putting in lots of effort to improve.
Keep doing what you’re doing, keep improving and your handicap will come down (if your club is still doing qualifiers.
I also did a couple hours this morning, mostly 45/55 yards playing 5 downhill to a front and back pin.
Using the clock method and getting some really consistent results.

It used to be busier years ago. Plenty have posted videos and got help including me.

Start a thread and u can always go back to it
and use the advice you receive.

I'd like to think around 15-20 feet for my handicap but ideally as close as I can on a consistent basis. I think if I can get a feel for landing them into a small area it'll dial in distance control much better and hopefully close up dispersion
That's about the average for a PGA tour player.
So if you're actually hoping to achieve that, you're going to be practising being pretty disappointed.
I'm imagining that you keep some reasonably accurate stats, why not use them to identify the areas that you're poorest at compared to (say) the average for a 10 handicapper and work towards that? Once there, move to the next one.

Did something I don’t think I’ve ever done today and had a gapping session. Mainly driven by wanting to know how far I hit my wedges so I can then figure out distances with 3/4 1/2 swings etc, but carried on up through the bag to 8 iron.

56 degree carried 89 yards
52 degree carried 104
48 degree carried 112
44 degree PW carried 118
9 iron carried 134
8 iron carried 147

Above was taken as an average from 10 shots. I only deleted a shot if it was very bad

I bought a Hackmotion Sensor on Ebay a couple of weeks back. It shows that I'm pretty good at address, and at the top of my swing but I'm flipping at the bottom of my swing, so I need to learn how to stop this at the range during the winter
