The club I played at for nearly 20 years had a par 5 the 8th, which if you could drive it say 240+ you’d catch a downslope and bound down to a 9 iron or 8 iron at most into the green. Wide fairway, not much trouble, couple bunkers around a pretty big and flat green. It was a joke it stayed as a par 5 for so long, as far as I know it still is.
Must’ve eagled it 50 times at least. Not sure the reasoning, the course was par 70 which I think they liked having it that at least.
Thing was there was at least a handful of par 4’s 10x harder. Strange set up but always nice picking up eagles and birdies pretty often.

I have had two in strokeplay competition - probably about 15 in total. At Dalmahoy our par 5s are quite gettable (certainly 9 & 18)

Actually met a few poor ones in prison.
My point was that with no crime, I would have had no job.
I still don’t think they will be poor. Well hidden money most likely, my wife’s comps run a scheme that helps prisoners find work and rehabilitate. The drug dealing ones whilst working there often have anything of little value and poorly turned out. Soon as they leave prison and go to work there full time the brand new BMWs, Audis , top end clothing etc all appears 🤷🏼

HIO all day long , an albatross is very rare but most of the time you don’t have a clue it’s gone in

HIO a lot of times you see it go in and it a rush
I can relate to this. When I got my albatross I thought my ball had gone over the back of the green. Spent ages looking for it and had given up, but just thought I’d wander over to look in the cup and there it was.

My first eagle ,it wasn't until a friend putted put and discovered my ball in the hole that I found out. It was a bounce game and he nearly didn't putt.

3 for me.
One on a driveable par 4. 10 ft putt...
Two on the same shortish par 4 - both with pitch-in irons from around 130.
The putted one is my favourite, because I stood over the putt knowing it was for eagle. The other 2 just kinda happened.

Yeah, I agree - putting out for eagle feels like a real achievement whereas holing for one off the fairway feels more like luck.

Before M&E buggered about with Nairn reaching both par 5s on the back 9 at 10 and 18 were fairly straight forward, both downhill and usually downwind, had too many to count on those. I have had a handful of Albatrosses the two most memorable would be on other courses. 7th at Castle stuart off the back tee SI1 at 470 yards. i also had a 2 on a par 5 on Machrihanish old, more luck than judgment on both occasions.
