Hi the wife comes home tonight and tells me that she received an email off Hermes that the driver they picked up would not be sent unless we pay an additional £10.80.

Checking the height stipulations we see that it was too tall by about 3cm so I suppose we take the hit on senders charges.

Who do you send your with?
Have you had the email and did you pay?
The total cost was £18.60 and I had tried the post office originally and they wanted £16 or £25 for next day.

I see on ebay most charge £11 so that's what I did.

This happened to me. Pay the charge, wait until the delivery is made then raise a dispute wit PayPal, if that's how you paid, that is. I did this, Hermes didn't respond & I got the money back in about 28 days. Did it again where I claimed back their charge because they'd taken over a week to deliver & got that back too.

Last driver I sent was with Hermes,it was just over but guess I got lucky.

Delivery charges are redicilous now.
£10:80 for 3cm over 😞.

I really can't be bothered selling on ebay anymore, more hassle than it's worth.

I've also posted with head detached if screw in adapter type driver shaft model
Then cut box accordingly

Could you put the driver in a wider box, along the diagonal, keeping within the length limit? Or do they charge for width as well?

Too late now but it might sneak in under the length if you remove the head.

I've used TNT in the past. Last time I sent one it was about £12, and they collect it from you and deliver the next day.

The longer the parcel the more risk of damage, if you falsely declare the correct length then you not only risk paying an up charge which is clearly stated but if it got damaged you'd have no claim.

Simply find the right price for the size and pass it on, people try to make on postage but you could end up losing everything as a result!

You don't declare a length to Hermes you go on line and pick a weight or length,i didn't actually do it the wife did but 3cm is just greed for an extra £10.80 although they do warn you that you could get charged.
I have sent all my clubs by Hermes including drivers and have had no problems although I do remember another email along the same lines.

One thing I wont do is cheat on the postage I charge but I don't think there are many if any that charge more than £11 on ebay.

Also ebay advertise Hermes tracked as £11.80 I believe.

Hermes allow 47 and a bit inches (120cm) so unless you're sending a Joe Miller Long Drive club you should be able to cut the box an inch or two and get under the lkmit - most drivers being less than 46"....

Everything I have seen when I've used Hermes and other online carriers is they ask if it's over 3ft or some ask if over 4ft, when you declare it is it then it asks you for the sizes and quotes you then. The weight then becomes irrelevant as it's either cubed or is based on the risk of its length.

If you only put in the weight it's assuming it's under their length restrictions for a standard service of 120cm

As others have said the limit is 120cm for a medium package with them so a standard driver should fit in, I always trim the box down to 120cm and if possible unscrew the head and that gets it well within the limit. Sent loads with them with no issues.
