Haotong Li penalty

Can you show me the rule about caddie/stroke/alignment that mentions the practice swing?

Please let's not go to the limits here
Please don't tell me a pro is actually endorsing the caddie's actions here
He is checking the players alignment with a tiny offset! There's no way that was the intention of the rule
(they made a similar mistake with the anchored putter rule and folk still winging about that)

Doesn't the rule say when a player takes 'a' stance, and not when a player takes 'the' stance

A stance for a practice swing on your line is still, 'a' stance

There are no restrictions on what can or can't be done on the practice stroke with regards alignment.

It isn't anything to do with a practice swing (if such a thing is even covered be the rules)
The player took a stance with his caddie in a position to check his alignment

But not for "the" stroke.....

Sorry, I'm out again:D
you should read the rule, it is pretty clear

When a player begins taking a stance for the stroke and until the stroke is made:

  • The player’s caddie must not deliberately stand in a location on or close to an extension of the line of play behind the ball for any reason.
  • If the player takes a stance in breach of this Rule, he or she cannot avoid penalty by backing away.

At the very start of the video (after the rules disappear from the screen) the player lines the club up right behind the ball with the caddie directly behind. I guess this was deemed as taking a stance and whatever he did next (practice swings and stepping away) is irrelevant

Exactly.
Had he been on the putting green the exception would have permitted him to start again but here the penalty kicked in and no amount of practice swings, walk always etc can remove it.

Seems the PGA tour are at it now

Happily penalised one of the little guys. Then they get told Justin Thomas has done the same thing. You'd assume a penalty for Thomas but no theyve chosen to cancel the original penalty instead. Just lol

Is this deliberately causing controversy to get the new rules into the public domain.
It looks like to me .
But the big boys have nothing to fear. They don’t penalise them!
