Some courses see it as a badge of honour, 'we never close' etc. Pointless thoughI've been up at the range at Parklands the last 2 days, and was surprised to see the course was open. I'd imagine it was a quagmire in places.

Although I respect your right to be annoyed, I do chuckle about this sometimes as there will have been loads of people before you got to the hole who would have trampled all over your line and around the hole so does one more 'footprint' actually make much difference. When picking my ball out of the hole I take care to stand well away from the hole itself to avoid damaging or indenting the surface close to the hole. Yet I played with a fellow yesterday who used the ‘feet astride line of putt‘ method when assessing borrow, and he did it right up to, then standing over with feet immediately next to the hole. Why need I bother.
Didn't particularly care for my playing partner being yelled at for not taking his second shot into a par 5 because there was a group on the green, just because the gobby pillock 3 groups back couldn't dream of reaching it.
(The way the course is laid out, it doubles back on itself, hence a group so far back being able to be heard by us - they weren't all bunching on the tee waiting!)
The quote yelled out was "even Rory McIlroy couldn't hit the green from there!"It's funny people's perception of when to hit or not. Last weekend we were playing the par 5 18th on the 2010 course at Celtic Manor, and we were on the green. A oldish guy was standing, hands on hips, waiting for us to clear the green. There was a 40+ mph wind directly in to him and I doubt he could have got to the green in three hefty wallops of the ball.
My irritation is partly that I bother and think others should also bother and have similar consideration for players yet to play the hole. Just because others stand close to the hole when picking ball out of the hole doesn‘t make it right and it doesn’t make it less irritating.Although I respect your right to be annoyed, I do chuckle about this sometimes as there will have been loads of people before you got to the hole who would have trampled all over your line and around the hole so does one more 'footprint' actually make much difference.
Unless they had Adizero golf shoes![]()
Isn’t it better that people do stand close to the hole (obviously not on the edge)? That way there is not so much crowning. My irritation is partly that I bother and think others should also bother and have similar consideration for players yet to play the hole. I've booked to play on my own today after work, 5.00 slot. When I booked there was one 4 ball at 5.08, 2-3 empty slots after them, nothing before me for about 4 slots. Great, clear run.
Just checked now. 1 x 4 ball has booked the slot before me, 4.52, nothing for 3 slots before or after. Who books a 4 ball before a single when it is empty all around the same time![]()

Hopefully it will be the same for me. A slight stress of being held up that could be easily avoided though. Annoyingly, I can't get there any earlier as otherwise I'd move my booking forward. Let's hope, in both cases, that the people ahead are aware and considerate golfers.I am in the same boat. Booked for 1630 as a single. loads of slots behind me free. 2 x 4 balls popped in front of me. Hopefully I will be allowed to play through
They're all mates of Backsticks, none of them touch the flag, use electric trolleys, rangefinders, don't even aim just whack the ball and run. They'll have done 18 holes in 2 hours 10 mins. Are these 4 balls going to be running round..?
