Fog...lots of it
The plan was to go out solo nice and early, play the back 9, walk back towards the car and if it wasn't busy carry on to do the front...
First part worked perfectly until the fog descended 4 holes in...
I knew I was the only one out there so I kept going and finished the 9
Got back to the car and you couldn't see 75 yards so I'm home already...gonna be a long day now....

Beautiful sunny weather, but freezing cold NE Breeze off the sea. A real killer, seeing guys arrive in shorts then all scrambling to put waterproofs and wolly hats on at the first or 2nd tee.

The complete lack of any knowledge of the rules by some people playing in comps.

I take a detor back though the local corse here on my way back waking the dog. It was exactly the same last week though not the same guys. Last week 3 guys all in the water and all took an incorrect drop, nowhere near their balls crossed and all a favourable drop at that lie wise. Two in the group behind did exactly the same again today. Was speaking to a couple of guys I know shortly after and commented that it's rife with all the younger guys who play in comps. How depressing.

Today's comp had 95 entries
We usually run 3 divisions and all money stays in your division
Div1 had 61 players in it with handicaps ranging from -2 to 14
That's too big a spread
Prize pot of over 180 quid whereas Divs 2 and 3 have just over 100 between them....
Not really fair on them.
I'm going to raise it with the DoG when I see him....

I appear to have lost the ability to find wayward golf balls. I lost 3 balls yesterday, 2 were in the light/semi rough and the other one was somehow lost on the fairway

I'd agree, I used them a couple of winters ago and they were so much easier to see off the club and through the air. A white or yellow ball at times for me is almost impossible for me to follow. I'd def recommend the pink too.
I've found the luminous green ones (Callaways) by far the easiest to spot in air and on the ground

(the pink ball suggestion was a bit of a 'play' on the pink castle avatar used by @venger but i guess that failed 😒 )

Trouble with yellow, is its hard to spot in the rough with the colour spectrum. The op already said hes using a yellow ball. I stand by me comment on the pink still especially through the air,and paired with a pink castle tee it would look cool too😉

I used pink balls many years ago and I found they were too dark to see in the air. Always lost them in flight.

Trying to arrange a knockout game, Jesus why do some of these guys bother entering. Emailed this guy 3 weeks ago only replied last week with one date, then promptly said he couldn't make that date after I'd booked it. Given him at least 5 weekday dates and 2 weekend. He can't do any and the closing date is this Sunday. Asked him.if he is conceding in that case.. no is his reply
🙄
