Following on from the walking on the line of a putt.
Is there any other examples of poor (or good) etiquette that really annoy you? Im pretty new to the game myself and trying to work out the whats what...listed a few that i have thought of along with a few ?? for the ones im not sure of (prob a list in the rules somewhere??)

-Walking on line of putt
-Casting shadow on line of putt
-Talking when other players are hitting
-Leaving green before everyones finished
-Not picking up when its clear you cant score
-Giving of unsolicited advice (i know this is a breach of rules but still happens too much)
-Within line of vision when smomeone is playing (esp putting)??
-Power walking on ahead of everyone the second the last playert tees off
-Ridiculously long preshot routine
+Helping look for balls
+complimenting good putts/shots
+agreeing that they are "so unlucky"
+contributing to banter

any others???

Sending electric trolleys (automatic) off toward the next tee when there are people teeing off.
Driving buggies up beside next tee when there are people teeing off.
Walking behind someone who is ready to play a shot, with ridiculous amounts of bag clatter.
Not shouting fore when you're ball is heading out of your line of sight, to where people MAY be.

PS - I don't agree that you should HAVE to pick up when you can't score. Sometimes it's appropriate but I would not consider it bad etiquette not to.

Am sure my old head master said to me once ' Do unto others what you would have others do unto you. That does not mean sitting astride the good old lady capt.

I always try to ensure that I make no movement when close to a playing partner who is lining up a shot. This includes removing or replacing a club from/to my bag.

I dislike when u are last to hole out, yet u are still left with the flag to replace
Im even teaching my son ( 12 ) when out with me, and some of his friends, 1st one to hole out picks up the flag and replaces the flag, when everybody has holed out
Its NOT hard

I also dislike the guy that marches 50+ yards ahead up the fairway at breakneck speed, then is stood in your eyeline whilst u play your approach

And the Golfer that leans on his putter, often leaving big dent with toe/heel, on your line ( quite often ) whilst he picks his ball out of the hole

The talking whilst youre playing your shot as Shaun said, goes without saying, enough time to talk whilst walking, surely.........

Thats it for now............

I am not so worried about walking off as soon as the last drive has been hit. If I am first to play my next shot then I will often head off ahead of the others to be ready to play. It is not antisocial as there is plenty of time to chat on a round.

What gets me is not watching other people's tee shots. I found not end of wayward drives for my playing partner but when I lost sight of one of mine he was not watching or digging in his bag or talking to someone else in the group but never watching where my ball went.

it really comes down to consideration for others, and 'teamwork' - the point made about leaving the last to putt to replace the flag is a classic example of an action that goes against both!

just think about how you would like others to act - it's pretty easy

helping to look for a ball - great; but if everyone's looking it becomes beholden on the person who's ball's lost not to have them hunting everywhere for 5 minutes on a total lost cause!

finally, beware the easy 'good shot' line - used all the time it has no meaning, and many people have a very different idea about what's good for them; nothing more anoying than a GS comment to a misshit loopy drive - which will often lead to an equally inappropriate 'that's pure crap' from the player, as his ball goes 50yds past his playing partners (good) drives!

smile - enjoy; try and relax; don't dawdle.

People who remove the flag and then let it fall to the green, just place it carefully.
Drop it onto your foot & then lower it to the green............it's not difficult.
Oh.........and roll it over a couple of times to prevent the actual flag from flapping.

Standing on the 'through line' behind the hole when putting, just as bad as standing on the line to the hole. Really annoying have great big hoof prints around the hole, especially if the greens are a bit soft and spongy.

PS - I don't agree that you should HAVE to pick up when you can't score. Sometimes it's appropriate but I would not consider it bad etiquette not to.

Couldn't agree more. People seem to mention this a lot. how is someone meant to make a new PB if they don't get the chance to hole out? They may not score a point but could break 100 for the first time...

People who insist on finishing some silly story even though you are ready to hit and the group behind are waiting.

People who stand too close when you are about to play.

Not raking bunkers. Hard to believe people don't do this but the evidence is there week after week.

I don't have a problem with people marching briskly off when the last in the group has played, good practice especially if the course is busy and it looks like a bit of searching may be required, otherwise you end up playing at the pace of the slowest player in the group and you know where that can lead! Agree you need to keep well out of the way of anyone playing from further back though.

duncan mackie;564080 finally said:
I am with you on that stuff. I hate it when I am playing with someone and I play a bunker shot that does not come off and you get the obligatory "well out" from them. It was not well out, it only just got onto the green and I now have a 20 foot putt. "well out" is getting it inside 6 foot and giving yourself a chance to tap in.

All mine have been mentioned but...

Chucking the flag down (and/or hold the flag but letting the flag flap. T'aint hard to roll it up or just hold it).
Casting shadows on line of putt.
Not raking bunkers (Satuday just gone was Winter Finals day - and course was immaculate. Course wasn't closed and we were allowed out ahead of the finalists. We were about the 4th group out. 6th hole bunkers all raked beautifully by the green staff - except for a line of footprints the full length of the bunker plus the hole where the shot was played. No effing consideration from some folk. Total gits).

No1 pet hate....

People moaning about the group that is on the green being slow when they tee'd off when that group had literally just got out of range... often happens on the 1st!!!!!!

People moaning about slow rounds in general when they're still likely to get the 4ball round in under 4hrs

People moaning about slow play when they spend feckin' ages in the cabbage themselves!

People moaning about slow play who can't hit the ball more than 150yds off the tee and play 'chip and charge' golf.

People who moan about that guy who is 220yds from the par5 and is waiting for the green to clear..... he stands a feckin' chance so LEAVE IT!
