Hi all,

I'm currently a member of two clubs. The handicap secretary at one of these clubs has said I'm not eligible to play in the club champs because its not my 'home' club for handicap. He reckons this is a Congu rule. I'm paying full subs at both clubs.

Anyone got a view? I might contact Congu to check.....

I am sure you can. One of our club champions has won it about ten times, but his handicap is held at a different club, even though he is a member at ours too.

it's nothing to do with CONGU !

it may well be a club rule, many do have it in place as a way to influence low handicap players to be listed against the club, rather than somewhere else.

whether it is or isn't will be in the clubs competition rules - ask to see a copy if they aren't readily available. If they don't exist they will have to write them quickly if they don't want you playing!

Please tell us which club this is....

Thanks gents. It makes no sense.....full paid member and have competition rights in all other club events. Have sent EGU a mail to query.

I've never heard of this one before. I would be furious - and demanding answers - if had an active CONGU handicap, had paid the same subs as every other member and was refused entry into the most important competition of the year.

The club in question is The Vale Golf & Country in Worcestershire. Don't think the guy is trying to stop me playing out of spite, just misinformed. He reckons it happened to someone years ago.......I guess he's wrong!

OK - expect to get an answer along the lines of ??? from the EGU, and they would normally expect to get queries via the club official.

The club has competition rules "Competition scores must be entered on the computer immediately after playing golf and the score card placed in the box below the computer screen. It is your responsibility to ensure the score card is correctly completed and the score correctly entered on the computer. Any errors will be penalised in accordance with the competition rules and the rules of golf." although the wordig in this paragraph suggests that some of them aren't particularily 'correct' - there are no penalties in relation to competition scores (ie DQ, 2 strokes etc etc) for any failure to enter a score correctly in the computer, only the relevant scorecard entries can be considered (that may be what they mean...).

Apparently the club constitution etc are kept at reception, and available to all members, so I would start by looking for a copy of the club competition rules there, and on the competiton notice board. Once you know exactly what you are up against it should be possible to establish how best to proceed.

If there is nothing in the clubs constitution you should be allowed to play, I've never heard of this before and know many people who play are members at more than one course.

If all else fails demand a meeting with the full committee and demand your green fees back as they may be breaking there own rules.

Good luck.

I was a member a 3 diff clubs at one time and played in all 3 club champs and had no problem

You could check with your other club and if they don't have a problem then swap home clubs. Job done. Although I don't think it should come to that.

Same situation for me! One of my clubs only allows home club members to compete in the club champs. Think it's a club rule

you have to appoint which club you want as your home club , and send your scores to both appointed home /away clubs. as you could have two different handicap at both clubs , but you must play off the lowest .but you are allowed to play and be club champion at as many as you can. i can only dream

You can only have one handicap.

One club, your home club, administers your handicap. You play off that handicap at both your home and away clubs and any other courses where you may be playing.

correct but you must inform both clubs of any scores you have . handicaps are not changed right away . you adjust your own handicap if you know you have had a score that will affect your playing handicap. before your club can effect that change
